First off, I find it really funny that people are picking the Blue Jackets over the Wings in every post. The idea that the first time playoff bound Blue Jackets will win, quite easily, against the defending Stanley Cup Champions and third best record, is very funny. So the reg. season match ended 3-3 games each. Detroit has the experience that the Jackets don't.

I've officially picked Columbus in 6 games in this thread. My homerism wouldn't allow me to go against them, but in my head I'm thinking that the Red Wings will take the series in 6 games where they dominate in their 4 wins. I'd so much rather play Vancouver in this first round.

As a Red Wings fan, the Jackets were the one team I didn't want the Wings to play in the playoffs. It wouldn't surprise me if there was an early-round bump for the Wings.

For the record, this is what I think will happen. What I actually want to happen involves the Jackets and Blues both making it out of the first round.

I'm surprised at all the Blackhawks picks so far, here are my non-homer picks:

East Quarterfinals

(1) Boston Bruins vs (8) Montréal Canadiens 4-2

(2) Washington Capitals vs (7) New York Rangers 4-2

(3) New Jersey Devils vs (6) Carolina Hurricanes 4-3

(4) Pittsburgh Penguins vs (5) Philadelphia Flyers 4-3

West Quarterfinals

(1) San Jose Sharks vs (8) Anaheim Ducks 4-3

(2) Detroit Red Wings vs (7) Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3

(3) Vancouver Canucks vs (6) St.Louis Blues 4-1

(4) Chicago Blackhawks vs (5) Calgary Flames 4-2

East Semifinals

(1) Boston Bruins vs (5) Philadelphia Flyers 4-2

(2) Washington Capitals vs (3) New Jersey Devils 4-2

West Semifinals

(1) San Jose Sharks vs (7) Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2

(3) Vancouver Canucks vs (4) Chicago Blackhawks 4-3

Conference Finals

(1) Boston Bruins vs (3) New Jersey Devils 4-3

(1) San Jose Sharks vs (3) Vancouver Canucks 4-2

Stanley Cup Final

San Jose Sharks vs New Jersey Devils 4-3

There it is, the Devils are my pick and I am not confidant at all with that. I would be more surprised if the Devils won than if they didn't, but I guess I liked the matchups they got and Brodeur can carry them. Other notes, I think the Ducks will give the Sharks problems but they aren't the team of two years ago. I can see the Blue Jackets winning more than one series, it's going to be up to Mason though. I think the Blackhawks can get to the SCF, the team I'm most scared of is the Canucks. They Hawks have lost badly the last two times they've played them. BOS/MON and PIT/PHI should both be great series, maybe the two (other than the Hawks) that I'm most looking forward too.

Theyve only played 7 games, buddy. :P

Regardless, I stand by it. :D

Hopefully someone on the Sharks just drills Perry right off the bat

Are you talking about Mr. George "Cavalry Mustache" Perros? If so, Jody Shelley will do the job. Jody is a beast, sure wish the Jackets would have held onto him. He can hold his own over Boll anyday.

No, he's talking about Corey Perry... apparently Sharks fans have a problem with him. I don't see it but eh..

Plus, you can't talk trash on the 'Stache. You're just jealous of his stache and the presence it commands.

Shelley and George have had their fair share of bouts... I'm sure this won't be any different

Luongo outshines Brodeur to take the Conn Smythe. This is mostly positive thinking on my part, but something that is very plausible.

I am surpirised that alot of people have Columbus beating Detroit. I really think they can, I just thought people would pick Detroit. This year, I see a lot of EXTREMELY TIGHT series.

Anyway, for my predictions:

Eastern Quarter Finals:

Boston 4 vs Montreal 1

I think Boston will blow the Habs away. Expect some close games, but for the Bruins to have the edge. I think the Habs have enough to win a game though.

Washington 3 vs New York 4

This series could go either way. It will either be a blowout either way or a 7 game grudge match. Both teams play completely different games.

New Jersey 4 vs Carolina 2

Look for Brodeur to be big in the playoffs. The Devils have alot of veteren leadership aswell and have always been a good playoff team.

Pittsburgh 4 vs Philadelphia 3

Series could also go either way. Expect a really tight series. It really depends on how wells the pens hold up. Home ice should really help them.

Eastern Semi Finals:

Boston 4 vs New York 2

Should be an interesting series. I'd like to see what the bruins will do about Avery following the Tim Thomas incident.

Pittsburgh 2 vs New Jersey 4

It'll be close in a lot of games, but New Jersey has enough offense to keep up with Pittsburgh, but Pittsburgh doesn't have enough defence. They will regret moving Whitney. Brodeur will out-duel Fleury too.

Eastern Finals:

Boston 4 vs New Jersey 3

I think Boston has the overall depth of a team that New Jersey doesn't. I see the Bruins model similar to the Ducks model in 2007. A Scoring line, Kid line and 2 Checking lines. Thomas will stand tall against Brodeur. Very close series though and all wins will come at home.

Western Quarter Finals:

San Jose 4 vs Anaheim 1

The Ducks have a good team, but it is getting old, they need to move on from Selanne and Niedermayer. San Jose will win in 5, the Ducks win coming at home.

Detroit 3 vs Columbus 4

I think Detroit will underestimate the Jackets. The Jackets always play really well against Detroit too. Chris Osgood was a HUGE reason the Red Wings won the cup last year, and he is struggling this year. Despite Conklin playing good, I think Steve Mason will stand on his head. Steve Mason and Rick Nash will lead the Jackets past Detroit. It would surprise me if they went farther, but it is possible.

Vancouver 4 vs St. Louis 2

Roberto Luongo will be the difference. St. Louis will put up a good fight, but it will all come down to goaltending.

Chicago 3 vs Calgary 4

It'll be a physical series, and it will be close. Despite the flames not getting the divsion, that is all the more reason for them to show that they mean it. The hawks may not be ready for the veteran squad from Calgary.

Western Semi Finals:

San Jose 2 vs Columbus 4

San Jose has such a good, deep team. But it won't be two much for the Jackets. The Jackets will have lots of confidance from beating Detroit and it may help them to win the series. San Jose will likely come out on top, but if the Jackets get on a roll, it could be a snowball effect. This series could be the upset that I mentioned in the NHL thread 1/8 of the way into the season.

Vancouver 3 vs Calgary 4 The real battle for the Northwest. It will be a grudge match. Expect multiple overtime periods in multiple games. The Flames take it in 7 games, but it will really fell like 9-10 games with the overtimes.

Western Finals:

Calgary 4 vs Columbus 1

The Flames will be to much for the Jackets. The Jackets will be tired after battling not just 1, but 2 of the leagues top 3 teams. The Flames will still have lots off gas in the tank despite playing what would be equal to 9-10 games against Vancouver. Mason will have to make fireworks for the Jackets to win this series, and I just don't think the team is capable of it.

The Stanley Cup Finals

Boston 3 vs Calgary 3

Look for a really tough, and physically intense series. I think the Bruins, will ultimately land on top, but don't count the Flames out. They should have won last time, and they will put up a fight to win this time. I don't think I can really make a prediction because both teams could win.
