The Road to Omaha

Ah i live in Omaha, Nebraska so i know the college baseball world fairly well. I go to the College World Series every year and see the best of the best play. Arizona St. has been the past couple years, and they are almost a lock to make it back. The same goes for North Carolina. LSU made it last year after a small drought. They should be in title contention again. Look for Rice to make noise as well. As for a few of your picks, I can tell you Minnesota and Western Kentucky won't win their regionals.

Wow, there is literally zero college baseball coverage of any sort up here and the only stuff I know about the team is through blogs that also cover basketball and football; I knew they were having a pretty good year, but BC Eagles' first tournament appearance since 1967? Coolio. Might have to watch some of this before they most likely get killed by Texas. Go Eagles!

Funny how this is the only time all year that anyone cares about my hometown. We are here all year round, yet to most, Omaha exists only for a few weeks in the summer. Oh well. Anyway, as you may notice in my sig, I like college baseball a lot. My faves are Nebraska, who had a terrible year, UNC, a #1 seed. Coastal Carolina, who is in the same regional as UNC, Tulane, who didn't have a good season, and the Gophers, who might pull some upsets. The CWS is my favorite time of the year. For a few weeks in June, the baseball world revolves around Omaha. Like my brother said earlier in this thread, we go to many games and I will be at Rosenblatt a lot. Can't wait!

O ya, if you haven't noticed, I've had that under "From:" scince I joined here. So I hope you alredy knew I was from Omaha. :D

That's not true. I care about Omaha Steaks!

As far as baseball goes, Go Mason!

Haha nice, omaha steaks. I can tell a few of you that boston college won't make it out of the austin regional against texas, who plays great postseason baseball. And that South Carolina will rin their regional, thus eliminating george mason. Lastly, Utah will go out against Cal St. Fullerton, another CWS constant.

Oklahoma State should be embarrassed.

Making a Regional without making your conference tournament is one thing (The SEC did it, what it seemed like, every year, for the past 10 or so years)...but when you can't make the Big XII conference tourney? You are terrible.

For those not in the know, The Big XII only has 10 members who play baseball (Iowa State is a club team/Colorado doesn't play) and the Conference tournament is among the Top 8 Schools.

Ok State only won 2 Conference Series all year.

Hit a BAD slide down the stretch.

Couldn't Make the Conference Tournament

Texas Tech, Dallas Baptist, and Rhode Island should be steaming right now.

My three teams all made it - UC Irvine, Vandy and Minnesota. My second tier teams had no chance - UA Little Rock, McNease State and NDSU. I started rooting for Irvine a couple years ago with their nice CWS run, and my sister is a Vanderbilt alum. Throw in the fact that I live in Minnesota, and they are the only Gopher team I can stand, and there are my top three. As for UALR and McNease, there are a couple former HS players from Bemidji, MN that play on those teams (really), and I broadcast them back in HS. I'll stop caring about them in a couple years. NDSU is a proximity thing (~2 hours away).

Are their any plans to let the Gopher Baseball team play in the new outdoor football or baseball stadiums?

The new football stadium is football only, and would be like the Dodgers playing at the LA Coliseum. No point in that. As far as Target Field, I wouldn't be surprised to see an exhibition next year as a "trial run" between the Gophers and someone (a mid-week game for example). They did that at Citi Field between St. John's and Georgetown, and Nationals Park opened with an exhibition between George Washington and St. Joseph's.

As to more games beyond that, I couldn't say. The long-term plan is to replace the Metrodome for Vikings use (a renovated facility is the plan, but that went no-where in the legislature this year). With no 'Dome, the Gophers end up playing a lot of road games in Feb. and March...

There is also a long-term plan to "renovate Siebert Field - the Gophers on campus home field, which is decrepit. They would keep the playing surface, and completely replace the grand-stands. Fundraising is underway as we speak. Unfortunately, they had raised the funding several years ago, but the U put a moratorium on building projects, so the funds were put in the general fund. Once the moratorium was lifted, none of that money was returned to the baseball program, so this go-round might be tough, fundraising-wise...

The deputy commissioner of the Big XII was head of the baseball selection committee.

That's why the Cowboys are in.

Thus why I can see the Texas Longhorns getting the number 1 overall seed

You mean they don't recuse themselves if teams within their conferences are up for discussion?!

I lived in Plattsmouth for a few years so I have a soft spot for Nebraska and Creighton when it comes to college sports. Unfortunately I never got a chance to go to the CWS. I only went to Rosenblatt for a Royals game hahaha, what a waste.

Considering the only college baseball game I've ever been to was a Fresno State game, I'll be pulling for them. Plus, as a Nevada fan I've gotta support the WAC. Heres to another miracle!

Dallas Baptist should not be steaming - Oklahoma State did better in their conference than Dallas Baptist did in theirs - it is as simple as that.

Will, once again you are a shining beacon of ignorance. There's a good reason Dallas Baptist didn't do as well in a conference as Oklahoma State, the Patriots don't have one to play in. They have to play as an independent because no conference is willing to house a team that only plays one sport in Division I(They're currently in the Division II Heartland Conference for their other sports) and a recent move-up at that.
