Used to be in the CBA and based in the Rio Grande Valley.

That, um, didn't go well. Not only were they sabotaged by the D-League placing a franchise there the same time, they had some serious PR and general competence issues.

Yeah the original ownership had a partnership with someone from Beaumont. The old owner tried to sabotage the team by firing the coach and getting rid of players during a 20 game win streak this past season. A judge wouldn't let the moves be made. After the season the guy from Beaumont broke ties with the man from the Valley leading to the name Mavericks.
