Makes me think of Joe Pesci getting taken care of at the end of Casino.

There is something about that script that just looks...I don't know...off.

I love this site. I love all the insight offered on here. In defense of the Fielders logo, which i designed, I would just say

that the owners, which included Keven Costner, got exactly what they wanted. As a logo designer, I know that all the

corn in the background will be difficult to embroider. I did point that out. But the person writing the check has the final

say. It's not a true logo, not iconic, like, say, the Houston Texans logo, the New Jersey Devils logo or the interlocking

NY of the Yankees, but it's what they wanted. Owners usually get what they want.

Nice to see input from the designer. At least it's a well rendered logo, for sure. Curious, what would you have gone with, was there a design you were really pushing?

I thought Joe Pesci got shot at the end.

In Goodfellas. In Casino, he and his brother were beaten with bats and buried IIRC.

I appreciate you saying that. We ALWAYS seem to forget this very important bit of information and blame everything on the designer. I'd say you did a good job within those parameters.

I still think the script looks off though...I just can't put my finger on it. It's not bad, by any means, actually I do like it, but something is keeping me from loving it.

Kudos to you for coming up here and giving your two cents. So often, we never get the insight on what went into the process. We just see the finished product and base all opinion off that.

Could you please explain why they picked "Fielders" when "Comets" seemed to be winning the poll by a landslide?

Because minor-league team owners feel the need to validate their naming choices through meaningless "Name the team" contests to create the illusion that the fans have a say in the matter.

Name-the-team contests help create/drive the team's database of fans who may be interested in season tickets. No other reason.

Personally, I think it's-meh. Also, I thought Comets had the most results in the poll EVERY time I checked?

Not the Lake County Postmen or Lake County Waterworlds or even Lake County Garrisons?

I think it is beautiful! Great job! I am not sure what more you would want for a logo.

Really? This fails miserably on a number of levels, the most prevalent being the embroidery nightmare it will create. Why is it that logo designers fail to take into consideration EVERY POSSIBLE application that the logo(s) will be used?

How in God's name do you know it failed? Were you in the meetings when the client listed out the goals? Last I checked, there wasn't a style sheet provided to explain all of the applications this logo was designed for. There was no creative brief that any of the "experts" here used as a barometer.

I would love for all of the "experts" on this board to list all of the great logo's they have designed for actual clients and get the clients reactions to their work. If the amount of people on this site with opinions equaled the amount of successful logo designers out there, there wouldn't be any bad logos in this world.

Decaf?

This board can just be so frustrating. It is the best source of sports logos and uniform information hands down, but everyone and their brother thinks they are an expert on this thing. Which would be fine if this was a college art class where cost, client frustration, corporate politics, deadline and budgetary considerations didn't exist. And when someone who is or isn't an expert comes out with a concept or an idea with good intent looking for honest positive feedback everyone rips them apart. But if you took a poll I wonder how many people on this thing create logos for a living? How many people go into a client meeting with a room of people hanging there neck out there and seeing if what they poured their heart into is any good?

People are more than entitled to their opinion, just don't be such a douche about it.

Mr. Letterhead Fonts,

I also like how everyone says logos or concepts (either produced for clients or done on their own for poops and giggles) are "beautiful," "awesome," or my favorite "tight." I am just as frustrated at people posting for the sake of posting as you are about the "experts" who actually do work/have worked in this industry.

If the client does not consider all of the necessary applications for this logo (and since this is a baseball team, then sure as :censored: embroidery is one of them), then they failed the project before FS had a chance to convince them otherwise, by rationale or design. You should know this.

So in this scenario, FS had to play the hand dealt (like starting Hold 'Em with 7-2).

I believe they have started building the stadium.

Here is the link from the teams website about the stadium.

http://lakecountybaseball.com/fielders-stadium.aspx

The Kenosha Twins ballpark is still standing. It is used for high school games and an adult baseball league here in town. The grandstands haven't changed much since the Twins left. They have a new scoreboard and a new outfield fence.

I just talked to one of my Lake County co-workers, and he said that the construction schedule for the park is very compressed, and that the Fielders will be spending the first 4 weeks of the season on the road while work continues. So, hopefully, all the mortar will be dry in time for the first pitch. Who builds an 8,000-seat stadium in just over 4 months?

Yeah, but they've had the same stadium mock-ups up since late May. That doesn't mean anything. Last time I went by the site a few weeks ago, there wasn't anything except for some rearranged dirt.

Speaking of dirt, here's what I found on their facebook group. On January 4th, someone asked how far along they were, and a marketing rep answered as follows:

As you probably know, there is a ton of prep work to be done before the contractors can just "plop" down the stadium frame. Draining system, electrical lines, etc.

That is what is going on currently. Once that is finished we will be moving onto the next stage, it will start coming together and begin to look like a ballpark.

Okay, this was dated January 4th, so maybe they have started installing drainage and all that, except for the fact that it's been too cold and snowy the last two weeks to really accomplish much of that, I'd have to think. This is supposed to be ready by the beginning of June. It's not going to be ready by the beginning of June! I know it's only a minor-league park and as such doesn't require over two years to build, but we're talking under five months here, with most of those months being really lousy for any sort of construction that's, um, constructive. Also worth noting is that the stadium is at the intersection of two rural two-lane roads west of the city of Zion itself. They're going to have to widen those roads to accommodate traffic unless they're cruel or stupid. That hasn't been done yet either.

On January 8th, someone asked

Now that I bought tickets will there be a stadium??

Marketing rep didn't answer that one.

Speaking of the website, I get a chuckle from this:

http://lakecountybas...ation.sflb.ashx

"Hey, see all the great things that Gurnee has to offer? We're actually like nowhere near any of that!"

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Should have zoomed in on Prime Outlets Pleasant Prairie and Mars Cheese Castle instead.

Kenosha has to be their backup plan. Their ancient, rickety backup plan. Either that, or, "Hey! Look who's got a traveling team this year! You have 2 weeks to reconfigure your schedules accordingly."
