Portland Timbers

This is is my idea for the upcoming MLS franchise from Oregon.

Fact:

- a new color scheme which reclaim to the wood;

- a brand new chest which integrate the traditional hatchet logo of the team and an abstracted rose to commemorate the history of the city;

- uniform ready for the 2011 MLS season, completed with patches and detailes;

- Intel as main sponsor because it's probably the most important company of the area.

Nice work definately a step away from the norm for this team (or its predecessors), I would suggest a couple of changes though.

The colours need something else added to it, the first time I looked at the designs I thought it was in sepia or grey scale.

The home jersey needs another colour (perhaps green with the browns as accents {I know you want a new look and I commend you for what you have done it is great work, but brown tends to not work very well in soccer jerseys and green is still associated with wood}).

The away looks good but a real jersey would just look dirty, perhaps go with white and brown.

For the logo the only thing I find a little bit off is the rose, it throws the perspective of the axe off. Perhaps place a faded version of it in the background behing the axe, I like the colours in it though.

That is just my personal opinion I don't know what others will think. But definately a good idea.

I agree with most of your opinions:

Definitely a good idea to add some shining colors. I was thinking about green to hold on a link with the past and, as you said before, that may remind of wood as well.

White for the away kit may work well, but I still have to try them with the new added color.

Yeah, I had some troubles with that rose. I'll try out to place it behind the axe then.

Very well done concept, I think it really needs green though. Without it, the colors are a bit dull. Even if it's just as an accent color, it would help a lot. I think a white away would look real nice too.

Thanks for the tips, guys.

Here's an update to test the added color, correct positions etc...

I have trouble making out the eye. At first glance, it looks like a tree knot or a fancy eye that might be affixed to a mystic's turban.

I think it's the perfect roundness of the outside of the rose that's throwing me off. Roses tend to spiral out like this:

Otherwise, pretty spiffy.

The green definitely was an improvement, but I still think it's lacking. Try some green in the numbers.

I'd suggest a green jersey, but not that same shade, as it's pretty close to what Seattle has. Try a more forest green rather than neon green.

Do you mean just for the jersey? Because I think that another "look like forest" color is way too much for this scheme. But, it would probably work too, don't know.

I like the logo colour change, perhaps change the green in the ball to white.

The Away jersey look great, the white makes it really work.

I think a forrest green jersey with brown accents may look better, but the light green does improve the brown one.

Geez, I need to stop posting when I'm not fully awake. What I meant to say was, change the green to a deeper shade, closer to a kelly or forest green rather than the bright green. I'd keep the brown kit, but do a green clash kit with brown shorts. Try to incorporate the green into the numbers, in addition to the trim and piping like you already have. The numbers don't really pop in the monochrome, but I think the green would help.

I'm not loving the rose. Perhaps it's because it seems like it's kinda slapped on there, but it is so disconnected with the rest of the feel that it dominates what is a very good logo. I actually prefer the tan secondary set over the white version. However, having that set does make it seem more drab, so a third color is needed to avoid the "oversaturation" of one color. Whether it be white or something else I'll leave it to you. Your neon green needs to be changed though. As mentioned earlier, it's quite similar to the Sounders' green. Something more foresty would look and probably feel better in my opinion.

I agree with delayed penalty, the upgrade is definately better, but the green should be a little darker, and you should add some trim around the numbers to make them stand out more. Right now it looks a lot like the Seahawks green. Other than that, this is a nice concept. The only other suggestion I would make is to have a different color background behind your concept, it's kind of difficult to see your uniforms.

I don't like the idea of Seattle and Portland sharing a common color at all. Whether it is the same shade or a different shade, IMO it would be weird for two natural rivals to share a color such as green in a prominent way(especially when Seattle will have worn it first).

The update looks fantastic...but may I suggest a white outline between the beige digits and the green outline on the brown shirts? I think the green outline would pop better if you did this.
