OrangeBalloonCoast
Brave-Bird 08's NFL Redesign thread made me think Arizona's NFL team needs a complete overhaul. And because I do like Arizona's state flag, which I think could be used by the team as their primary logo in some way, I messed around with different ways of using it for the team. C&C appreciated. Brave-Bird 08
this stuff looks good. It just reminds me of the usfl or something.
9erssteve
Yeah it's pretty well executed but there seems to be one fundamental flaw in your plan... What's the team name? The Arizona Flags? The Arizona Arizonites or should that be Arizonans? Sorry I dont know the collective noun for people from Arizona... Keep it clean you jokers at the back, ;-) I'm sure Arizona is real nice. Every other NFL team has a nickname and the identity and logo are more often built around this nickname than the actual geographical location of a team. They do this for obvious reasons it's easier to create an identity for an animal/bird (Cardinals, Broncos, Bears etc) local tradition (Cowboys, 49ers, Oilers) or mythical creature (Giants, Titans) than it is a specific location. PPlus being so specific could create issues with drawing crowds because of neighbouring town/state rivalries etc. But also because it means the team can up sticks and move to another location if needs be and still retain some form of identity (except if you're the Browns!).I dont have a problem with using area flag within identities, I think the Texans have done a superb job of doing just that, but again the identity is built around the nickname and the geographic location used to supplement the idea.I just think if you are going to re-brand a team, and the Cardinals are as good as any, I mean it's a concepts forum which to me means no team should be off limits as this is all really just a bit of fun, you need to start with the name first and work from there, it's usually how the pro's do it.9erssteve
AHcreative
Yeah, the helmets look nice but what's the point? Is the name going to change to replace the Cardinals? If so, what? The Arizona Flags, or any other name that 9erssteve mentioned. The Cardinals have been around since the 1920s so I don't understand why they would need an overhaul. They've used the cardinal logo on their helmets since they were the Big Red here in St. Louis. And even if you kept the name 'Cardinals', those helmets wouldn't really make sense, besides the fact that it is a cutout of the Arizona state flag, in the same way that the Titans "flaming thumbtack" logo, that we all complain about, is based on their state flag.Oh, but the logo itself is pretty nice. I'd love to see the Cardinals use this as a shoulder patch or something.

I didn't present it as a finished concept, and I haven't really thought of a nickname that would go along with the logo... and if that bothers people...uh, sorry

So what? There are many other teams called the cardinals as well. It's not like they have some glorious tradition associated with their name like your St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, so why not think about changing things and going with something distinct that people would identify with Arizona. What that is exactly... I don't know?
seancarter
why can't arizona wranglers be resurected as arizona NFL Team, all they would need is different logo that wouldn't infringe on USFL logo that was use during three years that team was active . For it be a concept first there has to be some kind of, oh I dont know, eh... concept behind it, other than "I could put their flag on there".By your own admission you haven't really thought this one through, and if it bothers you that other people spotted that I'd suggest thinking things through before posting them in future 9erssteve
DelayedPenalty
Perhaps this could turn into another series for a "league" with one team for each state? SFL? State Football League?(This idea is copyright DelayedPenalty 2009. All rights reserved. 0% APR applies only to vehicles leased for 72 months and does not include tax, title, or license fee. Burmy
This looks like it'd be a good logo if there were ever an "Interstate Football Classic" with all the states' high school all-star seniors playing in a tourney...
OrangeBalloonCoast
So, I thought about what I could name the team. Here are some of the names I thought of: Coppers, Copper Miners, Ranchers, Posse, & Lawmen. Both of the last two are nods to the movie Tombstone, which btw is one of the most underrated action movies of the 90s along with Heat. And if you haven't seen either one of those movies... well first of all, wtf man!!! and second of all, you should be watching those instead of reading this

Jigga
Don't Drink and Post. I do think it's a "neat" idea, but it just doesn't look like a team logo, looks more like a promotional helmet for a bowl game or something.I've always wanted a team to be dubbed the Arizona Phoenix...but that doesn't have anything to with this concept.
