Drew22
http://sports.espn.go.com/videogames/news/story?id=4229523So starting tomorrow, you will be able to vote for the cover for NBA 2K10. Kobe will be on the cover in one of the four pictures. The catch is one of them is Kobe in a Knicks jersey. Spike Lee is helping out on the advertising for the game, and he gave this quote. Finally, Lee gets to the last piece of box art. "If Kobe is going to be on the cover, at least put him in the orange and blue," he says, pointing to the altered image of Bryant on the Knicks. "He looks good like that."Apparently 2K Sports took his advice and made one of the covers Kobe in a Knicks jersey.Thoughts? Are you gonna vote for Kobe in the Knicks jersey? TFoA
I knew it, I knew it. Spike Lee following Kobe around is basically a one-man campaign on the part of the Knicks to somehow convince Kobe to leave LA and go to New York. Well played, Knicks. Well. Played. Seriously, I like when stuff like this happens. It's always interesting to see what stars look like in other uniforms, especially when you're so used to seeing one guy in a particular uniform. FiddySicks
That's gotta be against some marketing rule, no way that's legal. If I'm the Lakers I sue the pants off of 2K Sports if this ever hits the shelves. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) Oso
If we're going to get covers with pipe dreams, why not allow the option for us to vote for Kobe in a Clippers jersey?

If this goes through, and I was the NBA, I'd threaten to revoke/end licensing rights with 2K Sports as soon as possible. FiddySicks
Should the NFL have threatened similarly over this? That was a view of Montana in a Jets uniform for all of two seconds in a commercial probably seen by relatively few, this is a game where Kobe will be seen in a Knicks uniform by everyone who enters a Gamestop, Wal Mart, Target, many other places, ect for potentially as long as a year. HUGE difference. To have the cover of a popular video game feature a player in a uniform of a team that he will never play for (sorry StarChild) dilutes the value of your brand and calls into serious question the merit of your marketing techniques. Not only that, (I could be wrong here though) I'd think that while Kobe is under contract to the Lakers, he is in a sense their intellectual property. Look at the NBA store for example, if you tried to purchase a James 23 Warriors jersey, you'd probably get rejected. As much as I'd like to see Kobe in a Knicks uni on the cover of the game (Anything to get him outta LA), it'll be nixed easily. mania
Of course it won't be approved by the NBA, that's the whole point. It's a way to get people talking about a game that won't be out for a few months. Free publicity.
