oregon unveiling new uniforms tomorrow?

New Oregon designs always bring the same discussion, but recently we seem to have a twist. Now there seems to be a growing group of posters who have "flipped" the routine by claiming a large number of us will dismiss it out of hand for some preconceived hatred of all things Nike and Duck. We're getting more and more of these "get ready for the Nike bashing" posts. At the same time, these posts are automatically defending them out of, what seems to me, the equal but opposite knee jerk reaction.

Its like a Red state / Blue state thing... everybody is just voting for their side without really thinking it through.

To me, I get the whole "Oregon's tradition is to be non-traditional" stuff. Thats a cool idea that could really go somewhere. But bad design is just bad design.

If you shut off your normal reaction of hating all things Nike, or conversly, your sudden desire to go against the CCSLC usual reaction of hating Nike, you might find yourself just looking at these as design.

And, for me, as design... not good.

Lack of focus on a well branded, fairly unique color scheme? Not good. Number font? Remains the worst in sports. Elements (old - diamond plating, new - steel patterned helmet) that seem to be tossed in solely for their uniqueness? Weird for weird's sake doesn't work for me. Extreme over abundance of combination choices? Made even worse than before.

A few different choices can be fun, but there needs to be a controlling visual to hold it together. Its like, say I love Captain Crunch...its gonna suck if I have to try to find a different looking box everytime I go to the market. I might just find another favorite breakfast.

The wings? Ok.. kinda fun. But everthing else? It just gets more and more silly. And "silly" is not the way I'd want my identity to be described.

-unis made of "25% lighter material". Great! Now the players will be faster than the competition who still has those other heavy jerseys!

i think it's more about being cooler temperature wise and maybe more flexible/agile.

I think it's more about justifying increased markups while simultaneously feeding the "performance" cult obsessions.

Sir Gallahad thinks the helmets look great.

I'm still laughing at the "Go hard" on the helmets (look near the top).

And yes, I'm immature.

Overall, I'm just disappointed Nike has thrown away one of the unique color combos in college sports. I'm not sure why black and silver need to be a part of everything they make for UO. Design wise the only thing I like are the wings and the pants that remain fairly traditional. The helmets aren't bad either from a design standpoint, but again, GREEN AND YELLOW. Shouldn't be that hard.

That gray-white-gray combo looks sleek, but I can't help feeling it would be a lot cooler on a team that actually has gray as a school color.

Eh, it's definitely an upgrade, but not as much of an upgrade as it could have been if they hadn't added the gray, which just clashes with the other colors. The white jersey/green pants combo has the least gray, and is easily the best looking one of the bunch. I'd love to see that paired with the green helmet.

just ridiculous

Hahaha! I love how Oregon revels in making something look as terrible and as ridiculous as possible the closer you look. This is even better than the ghost flames. At least no one will ever see this unless they're on the field.

Not much to like here, the home jerseys are ugly, not enough yellow, to much "steel". But the road jerseys are awesome, if the "steel" color has anything at all to do with Oregon. These remind me of when Portland State dropped green, and made their jerseys pure black and white.

See, here's the thing about this: it's a cool design and all, and it'da probably been HAWT--for the Ducks, that is--had this here been made green instead of chrome/silver/steel/whatevertheywannacallit. Heck...the design itself isn't even bad. It's just that it's, well, not green. (Or even yellow or white).

Like I said before, minus the number font (and the ever-pressing advent of the flat-matte fabric--but that's across the entire spectrum of college football uniforms), the uniforms as a base are pretty alright. It's just all the extraneous stuff, like the gross and completely unnecessary overuse of the chrome/silver/steel/whatevertheywannacallit, and the mix-and-match decal thing (maybe) that really just kinda kills the whole thing.

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

Again, as an Oregon alum, this is all I ask for - give us our school colors and a white away jersey (as dictated by rules and tradition) that incorporates them where possible.

The sad thing is they've done that - the green homes look awesome, the white and green top is honestly the best jersey we've had since at least 2005, and though I wish it had dark green instead of black, the yellow is still good too. The shades of green and yellow they've chosen are better than the previous uniforms' green and yellow, too.

But the black and, especially, silver looks just aren't us. Again, technically, they're done as well as the others, and I honestly like the look with the wings....just not the extra colors that we've picked up that aren't ours. Add some crimson and the silver pants and helmet would look alright for Wazzu.

Ah well. Hopefully we'll finish in the top 10 this season...again. :D At a certain point the jerseys don't matter so long as we keep on kicking ass.

it's easy to beat other teams when they're rolling on the ground laughing at how ridiculous you look :P

Football players are dumb enough to like the uniforms Oregon comes up with, hence why they look like that.

I'm surprised at the lack of yellow pants. I wish the green was a bit brighter, Nike seems to always make everything matte-looking on fabrics.

I'm ok with all of the items that are green/yellow/white. If they lost all the black and chrome I would probably actually like them. The wings are better than the plate look. I wonder if that carbon fiber could have a tinted look, like a green carbon fiber. That might be interesting. Or if not, let a team with black/silver have them, that would make a lot more sense.

The only beef I have with this set is the fact that there are two white jerseys. The new helmet, IMO, kicks ass...the pants meant to match it, maybe shoulda had green and yellow striping (or at least piping) so it'd match the normal white jersey at least a little bit, thus negating the need for the second set of whites. Otherwise, I think the Ducks look pretty damn sharp, but that's only if you ask me...

With the exception of Tennessee, isn't it a dry heat, though?

You're kidding, right? Changing their uniforms due to that scorching southern California and bay area heat? That's ridiculous.
