Babe Ruth and the NY logo

I have read where Babe Ruth never wore any variation of the NY logo. According to Dressed To The Nines, The Yankees did not have this logo during Ruth's time in New York. I found a picture where Babe Ruth is wearing a uniform with what looks more like the Mets NY. I would like to know more if anyone knows anything.

If anyone would like to post these pictures below I would appreciate it.

Thanks

What's the logo on the cap then?

A quick search on Jack Bentley shows that he played with the NY Giants, which would explain that variation of the NY logo.

No idea why Ruth is wearing a NY Giants uni.

David Wells once wore a game-worn Ruth cap while pitching for the Yankees. The cap had the NY on it. Here's Ruth wearing another version of the Yankees' NY logo:

The Ruth / Bentley photo is from 1923, though it certainly appears like the NY on the cap is blue and not red.

Thanks. That is odd that Ruth would be wearing a Giants jersey. About the cap, I was aware that the NY was there. I was referring to the lack of logo on the Jersey. But if any other info about this is known I am interested.

Here's your explanation:

...and a bigger shot of him in the NY Giants uni:

The Yankee uniform everyone knows now came to be in 1936. Ruth left the Yankees in 1934 so Dressed to the Nines is partly right. The NY cap logo was around but he never wore it on his chest.

The only explanation I can give for the 1923 picture is that Ruth (Along with other major league players) did a lot of barnstorming back then. So maybe he was just wearing that while he was barnstorming.

EDIT: Okay, I was wrong about why he was wearing that particular uniform. But they did barnstorm a lot :)

Does it look like the NY logos on the jerseys are different colors? And it looks like the hat Ruth is wearing is white with pinstripes and the hat Bentley is wearing is grey with pinstripes.

Yes, it does look like that. But you'll notice that the photo is in black and white, and in a black and white photo light and color are collapsed into a single plane. So it's just as likely you're seeing divergent lighting conditions as contrasting colors. Notice that the two NYs are seen at different angles, so they'll naturally reflect light from the same sources differently. Plus Ruth is further from the camera, and more likely to be shaded. Also, remember that this was an exhibition game; Ruth might have been wearing a newer or cleaner uniform, with less fading of the lettering and less darkening of the fabric.

Since any of these lighting differences could equally well explain the apparent differences between the logos, and since they could easily combine to produce the same effect, and since individually and together they are much more likely to be true than the Ruth-wore-a-blue-Giants-jersey-that-is-not-known-to-exist theory, it would be a mistake to leap to the conclusion that this photo shows two different colors of Giants uniform.

What about Dressed to the Nines is incorrect here? They don't have the chest logo for any of his years.

You're right - the Babe did do a lot of barnstorming, but I believe most of that was under his own name:

It's also not uncommon to see him in a Yankee jersey with the monogram, from one of huis many post-retirement appearances at Yankee Stadium:

According to the Library of Congress, that is a picture of Babe Ruth from 1921 with the Yankees:
