infrared41
WOW. If I were a Tennessee fan, I would be PISSED OFF. Seriously, turns out Al Davis was right (!) about Lane Kiffin having no loyalty. I guess him wanting to make Tennessee one of the top powers in the nation only lasted until the USC job came open...lmao @ this. Wow.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4820737No doubt about it. And I have to wonder why a guy would leave Tennessee for USC with the current climate at USC being what it is. It's not like Kiffin left Middle Tennessee State for the USC job. Tennessee may not be quite as prestigious as USC but it's not exactly coaching in the shadows either. I'd think Tennessee is at least a top 15 job in college football. Maybe top ten.

TFoA
From the USC point of view, this is a smart move. They got a guy who had NFL experience & had the USC pedigree, which is exactly who they wanted to get. Plus if they're getting Monte & Ed O, then the defense should be alright. This is a good move on USC's part, no doubt from a football standpoint. From a PR standpoint, pretty sure that this doesn't help them. Lane Kiffin's already somewhat of a polarizing figure in the college football world, & I'm pretty sure that there will be just as many people praising Kiffin for coming here & loved his one year at Tennessee that hate everything about Lane Kiffin. This is DEFINITELY interesting.Just...wow.

He had better be on his best behavior @ SC though, it's pretty obvious that that program is going to be under a pretty big microscope from here on out, if they aren't already going to be sanctioned by the NCAA.Also, this came from Matt Barkley's twitter (which I'm pretty sure is real...as for the quote, idk):Lane Kiffin r u kiding me come on sc can we not get some one better!!lol if that's actually the case. Nice way to start off the era.

And I wouldn't be surprised if the response is "set sanctions to smite". jkrdevil
Why would you want to hire a guy who left after just one year at a place? Isn't that indicative that he isn't going to give you yourself a long term commitment?

Jigga
Looks like Norm Chow is coming back to USC, too. From Westwood back to The 'Hood, baby! The Internet is a breeding ground for hate, but I love this move for Kiffin. Everyone was saying he wasn't a good fit for Tennessee/the SEC/the South...well, now he's back in Cali. Good for him. Cujo
Part of the reason Kiffin is headed west has got to be because he realized he's got virtually no chance to win in the SEC win year-in and year-out. Tennessee's gotta battle with tyrants like Florida, Bama and LSU to land the top recruits in the south, and on top of that go undefeated against all of them to have any shot at the BCS. On the other hand, Southern Cal can pretty much get the best players on the west coast, and aside from the Oregon team that shows up every other year, the Trojans are almost always a shoe-in for a BCS Bowl. Knowing that, if i were Kiff, I'd bolt for SoCal as well!

dfwabel
I don't think anyone has ever made as much money with a resume that solely consists of "fired for cause by Al Davis.""I realized when I hired you that you were young and inexperienced and that there would be a learning process for you," he read. "Your mistakes on player personnel and coaches were overlooked, based on our patience with you. But I never dreamt that you would be untruthful... in statements in the press and as well as so many other issues. Your actions are those of a coach looking to make excuses for not winning, rather than a coach focused on winning."-Al Davis (9/30/2008)Who knew that a man who was using an overhead projector would be so right? TFoA
Tennessee basketball player Renaldo Woolridge's eyewitness account of the craziness that is happening on campus right now...LinkJust as everyone suspected, the students & fans are PISSED. Apparently Kiffin just had some sort of meeting at the Tennessee football complex, which had to have police guard the building. Fans chanting " YOU KIFFIN!" & his home address, COPS TEAR GASSED THE CROWD & some chased his car down the road as he left Tennessee, probably for the last time. Also the number of people involved is in the thousands. This may be the first time a coaching change has caused a near-riot.So yeah, to say that Tennessee supporters are pissed would actually be an understatement.
