I'm gonna get shot down for this, but how good does this make Boise State look?

I suppose your argument for Boise State is valid as long as we agree that Stanford is the second best team in the Pac-10 since they beat Washington who beat USC.

Okay, but we need to edit that. Stanford is the second best in the Pac-10 since they beat Washington who beat both USC and Arizona.

Whatever dude. It doesn't make your Boise State argument any more valid. The point is that it's tough to figure how good a team is going to be after their first game of the season. For example, here are the rankings after week two of this season...

1 Florida

2 Texas

3 USC

4 Alabama

5 Mississippi

5 Penn State

7 Brigham Young

8 California

9 LSU

10 Boise State

11 Ohio State

12 Oklahoma

13 Virginia Tech

14 Georgia Tech

15 TCU

16 Oklahoma State

17 Cincinnati

18 Utah

19 Nebraska

20 Miami (FL)

21 Houston

22 Kansas

23 Georgia

24 North Carolina

25 Michigan

How many of the teams in bold looked pretty good at that point? BYU immediately comes to mind. They had beaten Oklahoma in week one and we were all thinking they may be great. Turns out they were about like the average BYU team. They got their asses handed to them again by TCU and they still have to play Utah. Week one doesn't mean :censored: in gauging how good a team is going to be over the course of a season. For Gary's sake I'll use another example, Michigan lost to Appalachian State in week one but beat Florida in a bowl at the end of the same season.

Boise State beat Oregon in week one. Would you bet 500 bucks that they could beat The Oregon team you watched dismantle USC tonight? Maybe they could, maybe they couldn't. I'm not taking anything away from Boise State but Oregon's beat down of USC doesn't make Boise State look a bit better than they are to me.

So does USC score an at large bid or are they relegated to the Holiday Bowl?

Boise State is legit, and so is TCU, and so is Cincinnati. If you're going to knock Boise State, then you better be knocking Cincinnati as they have played, um what exactly tough opponent have they played? Then again look at Texas and what tough opponent have they played and the same with Alabama and Florida? No one in the BCS conferences wants to play those three schools in a bowl game. They are three teams coached by three excellent coaches. Right now my top 10 would be:

1. Texas

2. Alabama

3. Florida

4. TCU

5. Boise State

6. Cincinnati

7. Oregon

8. Georgia Tech

9. LSU

10. Penn State

I know someone is going to ask, "Where's Iowa? Didn't they beat Penn State?" Yes they did, but I'm just waiting for their bubble to burst. You can't keep winning like they do. When the bubble bursts, and it will, it's going to be bad. If the bubble bursts next week against Northwestern, then they will lose their last four games and get blown out in all of them including their bowl game. They are winning with smoke and mirrors and the clock will strike 12 and when it does, it's going to be ugly.

If USC wins out they have a great chance at an at-large, based in name alone. Hopefully they don't take an at-large spot from an undefeated TCU or Boise State. There will be 4 at large spots, today they should be Alabama, TCU, Boise and either USC, Penn St/OSU/Iowa 2nd place, Miami?. I would guess...

NCG: Florida v. Texas

Rose: Iowa v. Oregon

Orange: Cincy v. Georgia Tech

Fiesta: USC v. TCU

Sugar: Alabama v. Boise State

I don't follow much NCAA football, so I was really confused last night as I turn to NBC and saw Washington State play Notre Dame in San Antonio and ads for the Alamo Bowl. For a moment, I really thought they were replaying last year's Alamo Bowl. :D

I saw, I came, I left.

Don't blame you for being confused, Dead. But, it's all part of Notre Dame's new scheduling plan, which has 7 home games, 4 road games and a neutral site game (This year it was the game with Wazzu in San Antonio). All this is done in hope to lure bigger names to Notre Dame because, let's face it, any way the Irish can get some talent helps.

One thing I want to mention: Can we call this year the 'Year of the Bottomfeeders'? Why? Well, Idaho is 7-2 and is on a collsion course with rival Boise State in a game that not only has WAC implications, but BCS hopes for the Broncos. Temple is 6-2 and bowl eligible for the first time since 1979 (!) and Duke is 5-3 and in the thick of the ACC Coastal Division race.

Maybe no Rose Bowl, but if they win out then they're probably going to Glendale. No way in hell that the Fiesta Bowl committee misses out on getting a team like that, especially one from the West Coast.

Also, for the third time this week, where in the hell did Temple come from? Bill Cosby must be so proud.

No one is knocking Boise State. My only point was that you can't use Oregon pounding USC after Oregon lost to Boise State as any indication of how good Boise State is. As I said earlier, if we're using that type of logic then Stanford is the second best team in the Pac-10.

Speaking of Cincinnati, I think Pitt knocks them off and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they've already lost to West Virginia by the time they play Pitt.

Only reason Boise State is ahead of TCU and Iowa is because of Oregon.

Exactly. As long as USC wins out, there is too much money to be lost by not having them in a BCS Bowl.

Now I'm disappointed that USC has lost it's national championship hopes and their Pac-10 title streak. But If USC can win out and get an at-large bid, it will be a little more exciting for USC fans. There has been a lot of talk recently that when the Trojans were annually going to the Rose Bowl, it just kinda got stale and boring. "yay. a rose bowl. yay. another big 10 team to lay at our feet and take it." Now they can go to a different bowl and see a different freaking opponent than OSU, Michigan, Illinois, Penn State... YAWN.

Definitely a tough loss, but there are the positives to take out of it.

Get an at-large bid. Let our stud freshman QB learn a lesson or two.

All in all, USC will be better for this loss to Oregon.
