infrared41
Yup. This Humanitarian Bowl has been a complete and utter waste of time. Damned insignificant bowl games anyway.
tBBP
THAT GAME WAS F***ING INSANE!! Those teams matched score for score damn near the whole way throughout. But then, the ending......Freddy Barnes streaking down the sideline...burns his corner...TD! BG goes up with 30-something seconds to go. 42-35 BGSU.Idaho goes back down the field...miracle catch takes them down the field. Another miracle catch in the endzone to bring the Vandals to within 1 with :04 to go. 42-41 BG.And can you say BALLS? Idaho goes for two for the win in regulation...and GETS IT!!! 43-42 Idaho! Can you say DAMN?!This has got to be the best of the bowl games thus far. Wow...Idaho gets its first bowl win since '98. And to follow infrared's point, if not for these "extraneous" bowl games, some of us would never get to see these more obscure teams play and do what they do. I just learned about Idaho tonight. And got treated to a helluva game in the process. *Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. || dribbble || Behance ||

Seadragon76
Freddie Barnes is the real deal... No lie.He just finished his season with 155 catches (a new FBS record, BTW). Now, imagine an NFL receiver doing this. With 155 catches in 16 games, you'd average just under 10 catches a game. What Barnes did was in only 13 games, which means that he would have just about 12 catches a game.Think about it? 12 receptions a game... Granted, most of it came against far weaker opposition in the MAC, but these numbers are video game quality stuff here.Oh, and big props to Idaho for going for it instead of sending into OT. That's mucho grande cajones there from Akey and for a program like Idaho, who really doesn't have much to show in this past decade until now. dfwabel
This is entertaining reading:Earlier this year, The Dallas Morning News obtained Texas Tech e-mails through an open-records request. The e-mails show communications between Tech administrators, primarily Chancellor Kent Hance and athletic director Gerald Myers, and athletic booster Jim Sowell of Dallas during contract negotiations with football coach Mike Leach. At the time, Leach and the school hadn't been able to agree on a contract extension after several months of negotiations. The first e-mail among this group, dated one year before Leach's firing, shows Sowell recommending to Hance and Myers that Tech should stand firm in its negotiations with the coach. “You should sign a contract that would not cost us too much to fire him,” Sowell wrote. “He has to have a big buyout. He has shown no loyalty.” Booster emails to TTU Chancellor and ADAs for NFL catch equivalent, Wes Welker has missed two games this year and has

Jigga
No way dude, you're totally missing the point! Coaches are perfect! Players are all p*ssies! They need tough love or they will revert back to their neanderthal and/or thuggish ways! Can't you see? Guys like Mike Leach and Mark Mangino, because they happen to lead a barely breathing, bottom feeder program to mediocrity, get to have carte blanche when dealing with these stupid prima donna mama's boys who need to learn what's what! That James kid is a little whiny bitch who thinks he's hot :censored: because of daddy's name and money. Bear Bryant would have flogged and run that kid till he collapsed! That would have taught him to complain about a little headache some doctor had to tell him he had. Just give him a couple of Midol, a tampon, and douche, because if he wants to act like a :censored:, he should be treated like a :censored:! Apparently big boosters, who had direct channels to the administration, were not that in favor of Leach as well.

That last game was amazing! That BG-Idaho game was incredible. I watched the whole thing and was entertained throughout. I think you're right about these smaller bowls being more exciting than the big boys. I bolded that part in your statement because I think that most of us in favor of a playoff would also retain the bowl system for the teams outside of the playoffs. A veritable football NIT, if you will. I'd like to see the national championship decided more fairly, but in no way do I want to see these smaller exciting bowls go away and there's no reason that they would have to.and Idaho's head coach is my new favorite coach. Not just for that ballsy two point conversion call, but also his voice. He could be an announcer for the WWE with that voice.

He could be an announcer for the WWE with that voice.I'm not gon' lie--after listening to him, that dude had me ready to go play for him. Here's something else--and this is something I've been doing with smaller/lesser-known schools in places I know nothing about...as I was watching that game, I was also simultaneously googling Idaho (the state), trying to find out all I could about the place while wondering who would want to go there. Learned some things...didn't realize Idaho was a miniature Silicon Valley (or Utah north--but that's another story). And, among notable natives/residents I found Joseph Albertson, founder of Albertson's grocery chain; Jake "the Snake" Plummer, Merrill Hoge, Harmon Killebrew (for you baseball people), and aviation pioneer Walter Varney, whose early-30s mail delivery services directly lead to the births of just about every major airline in existence today. (Guess it's also worth noting that Jared Allen is an alum of Idaho State.) *Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. || dribbble || Behance ||

rentz
Freddie Barnes probably won't make the first round next year because of the school he attends, but he can play. Some team's going to get lucky in the fourth round next year.
lbr218
Orange Bowl on Tuesday! I honestly don't really have a good feeling about this game, mostly because of our helpless defense and our losing streak in bowl games. I am very much looking forward to it, but I'm not looking forward to being beaten in such a high-profile game. I also think next year will be a "rebuilding" year because I'm sure that our three best players (Dwyer, Morgan, and Bay-Bay Thomas) are going to declare for the draft.Nonetheless, we had a great year this season, and even though our coach is an a**hole, he's OUR a**hole!! But what I really wanted to get at was, what are you guys' opinions on the ACC? How do you think it can improve? Realignment? (obviously all hypothetical) It's known as a very weak conference, and I would love to know your opinions and theories on what it will take for the ACC to run along with the "big boys" of the Big Ten and Pac-10 (it'll never be mentioned in the same breath as that SEC-ever, so I'm not even thinking it...) rainmaker17
Bias aside, Oklahoma is unwatchable to me because of their stupid band. At least learn another song. Every first down, every three yard gain it's the same thing. bum-pa-dump-pa..... bum-pa-dump-pa.... bum-pa-dump-pa (ad nauseum). It's really brutal in person at the Cotton Bowl when they play UT. TFoA
Reminds me of USC with the Fight On thing or whatever it's called. I can understand playing after big plays, but a 2 yard run up the middle is hardly the occasion to play another rousing edition of Fight On. FiddySicks
That's exactly how I felt about Navy's band today. Something just sounded so annoyingly off with their version of Anchors Aweigh. It was high pitched and squeaky, kind of like running your fingernails on a chalkboard. And they played it after every single positive play. I thought the academy's were supposed to be known for having fantastic bands, but Navy sounded horrible today.
