I did not see this game as a slugfest, but...can Bob Papa show any less emotion on this game?

Worst :censored:-ing NFL announcer on TV right now. The guy who calls high school games on my little government TV station runs circles around that guy. Hell, most high school announcers sound a lot better. He sucks. Big time.

I don't know if you guys have heard, but I go some bad news for next weeks Sunday night game. According to the 506(The programming map site) its:

Redskins(4-9)@Cowboys(8-5)!

Aren't the Cowboys already on a zillion times per year?

Here are some of the other matchups they could'v had:

Denver(8-5)@Philadelphia(9-4)-Two sure playoff teams, Dawkins grudge match

NY Jets(7-6)@Indy(14-0)-A New York team vs one whose undefated

and J-ville(7-7)@NE(8-5)-The Jags probably aren't the most attractive team, but the Patriots have only been on once this year.

(5 of the 6 teams I mentioned have a pretty solid fan base)

I don't want to see the overexposed Boys and the ever so boring Skins!

Bob Pappa is a better radio announcer when you need to be more descriptive.

Then do not take the TV job with the NFLN. Bob Papa is just this BANYCT (Best Available NYC Talent). Ian Eagle is better than Papa and CBS's Gus Johnson.

At least 1.5 lung Bryant Gumbel tried! And he could still tell a story better.

Stop it, Tank.

"Marquee matchups" my ass, NBC just wants ratings. What's the best way to get ratings? Put a Cowboys team on TV. ESPECIALLY in December because they'll be a trainwreck and people love trainwreck TV.

Would've much rather seen a possible Broncos/Eagles game on nat'l TV. But oh well.

Actually its Dallas at Washington(my bad)

Still though, I was hoping for a MUCH better one, especially after the Favre slurping this week. I thought flex scheduling was to prevent this

This Colts - Jags game is rather exciting so far.

And quick. These two things when put together are great.

Five lead changes in the hour long first half. This is crazy!

... well it's the second quarter that's crazy. The first was very pedestrian.

Fair enough.

Well to be fair, both teams had one possession each in the first quarter.

Edit: Did anyone see this game being a slug-fest?

That the most interesting part, well, to me anyways.. and the Colts were not even done with their possession yet. I didn't pedestrian in a bad way. It was quite intriguing how the drives developed. With the high-scoring second quarter, you can see just how different the game can be played.

I saw, I came, I left.

Maybe they should try Tom Papa.

Tom Papa

At least we'd get a few laughs...

Colts-Jags was an entertaining game. Kind of wish the Jags had taken it to them, though I agree with the idea that having two undefeated teams is keeping the white-hot national spotlight off of one team and that's good for the Saints. The less distractions the better.

BTW, apparently the league is strongly considering flexing the Saints-Panthers game to prime time in Week 17 if the Saints are 15-0 at that point.

Saints-Panthers to SNF?

My feeling with radio guys who move onto the telly is that in any sport, they at least start off talking too much. The good ones scale back from wittering on and describing stuff we can patently see ourselves. IN the UK commentators tend to be one or the other, if they move onto TV they tend to stop doing radio altogether, and so get out of those bad habits. Maybe they tend to keep them in the US.

Despite my current signature, I'm looking forward to if/when the Colts get knocked out in the first-round like they always do after resting their starters.

The year they won the Super Bowl you ask, they didn't rest their starters; they were playing for playoff positioning.

As I look at this, a Buffalo win over New England this week puts Miami in control of their own destiny, as the 'Fins are 4-2 in division entering this week (split with NE) and the Pats enter 3-2.

However, if the Patriots defeat the Bills but lose to

The Dolphins would be 5-3 in common opponents outside of the division by virtue of wins over Houston and Tennessee (AFC and NFC South).

The Patriots would also be 5-3 in common opponents outside of the division by virtue of a win over Houston or Jacksonville and a loss to the other thus forcing said tie.

The next tiebreaker is division record, where the Patriots would be 7-5 and the Dolphins would be 8-4. That's where the tie would end, such that a New England loss at any point during the remainder of the season puts Miami in the driver's seat for the division.

And I don't feel like breaking down anything else right now :P

I'll be at the Bills/Pats game this weekend (free tickets!) freezing my ass off. I would like nothing more than to see the Bills play the spoiler and deal them a huge upset that could keep the Pats out of the playoffs. As sad as it is to say as a Bills fan, my hatred for New England is FAR greater than Miami. Aside from Joey Porter, the 'Phins have a very....gulp...likeable team!

Enjoy! I want to go to the Colts game on the 3rd. I want to see them go 16-0 or the Bills pull their biggest upset in recent memory.

As for the Pats, I can't stand them and hope the Bills pull a huge upset on Sunday.

If I remember correctly, Fox and CBS both get to protect one game once the flex-scheduling kicks in, as to protect their ratings.

Come on Jags! Dang!

I'm of the opinion that you just need one Super Bowl to cement your legacy. Look at Elway. After he won his first against Green Bay everyone said that was it. The monkey was off his back, he finally had the last piece of the puzzle needed to complete his legacy. The second one against Atlanta a year later was just icing. No one said "ok, now lets see him win two" after the Green Bay game. He just needed one. That was it. So I don't think Payton Manning needs a second ring to really cement himself as one of the greats. He's won one, that's all he needs. The only time the number of rings comes into play is during the Manning vs Brady discussions when Pats fans boast that Brady has two more rings. Yet I think we all know that it takes more then the number of championships won to determine the greatness of any player.

Really, Mike? Elway DID lead the Broncos to three Super Bowls before the win against GB. Would he be any less of a legend had he not won a big one? Same argument could be applied to Marino.

I agree. Even if he never won a Super Bowl he would have gone out as a legend. I'm just approaching it from a "legacy" point of view. It seems that a single Super Bowl is all one needs to cement a legacy. I was mostly responding to Saintsfan's post about how some people might feel Payton needs a second ring.

Actually you're right, at least for this week.(CIN-SD and GB-PIT were protected, and the Colts and Saints are already off the board) As a result we were stuck with Favre vs a mediocre team. However, with that in mind, wouldn't NBC look for a MUCH better matchup the next week?(I honestly don't think that any games were protected for week 16)

Anyone remember NFL bust Lawrence Phillips?...

Ex-NFL RB Phillips gets 31 years in the slam

Phillips twice choked his girlfriend in 2005 in San Diego. Later that year, he aimed his car and struck three teens after a pickup football game in Los Angeles.

Sad.

He should've faced additional charges for missing the block that ended Steve Young's career.

Due to a classic Nor'easter slamming the the US Northeast two games have changed their start times. Baltimore/Chicago & Phily/San Fran have moved their games to 4:15et from 1:00et.
