Mora was not Holmgrens guy it wasn't guaranteed that he would of kept his job if Holmgren was hired. Reportedly Mora and Holmgren didn't get along the season before Jr took over.

My point was that Holmgren brought in Mora, and Mora was made 'coach in waiting' whilst Holmgren was still in Seattle. I get the feeling that the Seahawks wanted to move beyond that whole era, and getting rid of Mora is all part of that.

No. Getting past the era is not part of that. Mora was sacked because he's a bad coach and they hammered out a deal with Carroll to replace him earlier this week.

I would prefer that owners get rid of a coach they are not happy with, rather than limping on and not backing the coach.
I think it's perfectly reasonable, if unlikely, to say to owners once you have figured a coach is the guy you want to start the season with, you owe it to that guy to give him a fair go! That seems fair to me!

The point being that the Seahawks have evaluated the situation and decided that Mora is not a guy they are comfortable with, and sacked him rather than waiting for the 2010 season started and then firing him after a couple of defeats early on, which is what NBA owners seem to do sometimes.

I am not at all against an organisation sacking a coach they don't want, but there is a time to do it.

The Holmgren era was the best in the franchise, they wouldn't want to move beyond it.

I think the Seahawks are smart enough to realise that they need to move beyond it, just as the Cowboys needed to move beyond the Landry era, or the Dolphins needed to move beyond the Shula era, or the 49ers needed to move beyond the Walsh/Seifert era, or the Steelers needed to move beyond the Cowher era or that one day the Patriots will need to move beyond the Bellichick era, etc etc etc.

Just heard a rumor on NBC that USC will be targeting Jeff Fisher if/when Pete Carroll leaves. They'd probably have to toss a boatload of cash his way, but it could get done. I'd be all for that move, Fisher has always been one of my favorite coaches and it'd be interesting to see how his likeable personality works in terms of recruiting.

Cincinnati have used and lost both challenges in the first quarter. They are down to one timeout left in the first half and no other challenges remaining. In the Instant Replay era, how often has a team used and lost both challenges in the first quarter and gone on to win the game?

I am starting to feel bad for Tom Hammond. Not only did he have to deal with Notre Dame football this season, he now has to deal with Theismann (who cannot shut up), Joe Gibbs (who has the personality of wallpaper paste), and Tiki Barber (who just tells us it is getting cold and never gave is information on the NYJ punter).

I'm not sure, although my gut thinks the Martz-Era Rams may have pulled that stunt at some point.

The Browns did it a few times when Romeo Crennel was here. I'm not sure they all happened in the first quarter but there were a few times The Browns were out of challenges before halftime.

It was more or less expected after a while.

Fisher has two years left on his current deal at an estimated $5.5-6 M/season.

LA Times gives names of "potential candidates" sans Tuberville.

La Times Speculation

I see Del Rio more of a college coach. He is more "strappin'" for the cougars for the HS player.

I would think Fisher would have his pick of NFL jobs once his contract is up. Going to USC would be a bit of a downgrade for him. I think he holds out until The Cowboys job opens up.
