2009 NFL Season Thread

Well lookee here. The Panthers haven't played so much as one pre-season game, and we've already lost Maake Kemoeatu for the season, and Jon Beason probably through the pre-season. And now we can add Steve Smith to the list of players we can least afford to get injured who's managed to get himself banged up.

Could it be time for another of John Fox's patented 7-9 seasons?

From Chris Cooley's blog, here is a partial list of uniform violations:

$5000 fines

- High/Low whites on socks

- Pants not covering knees (no skin should show below the waist)

- Bandana

- Wrong nasal strip

- Hand towel alterations - towel must be 7 to 8 inches and have no tape on it

- Tape not the same color of the shoe.

- Jersey untucked (usually there is a warning for this one)

- Jersey cut too short

- Sleeves coming out of jersey - only QB can have this and only a certain amount can come out

- Chinstrap undone ($7500)

$10,000 fines

- Personal messages

- Any second offense fine

- Wrong attire 90 minutes previous and after a game - clothes must be Reebok apparel

- Tinted visor - must have a doctors note for a tinted visor

"There is also a special fine schedule for the post season. The minimum fine in playoff games will be between 10 and 20 thousand dollars. The minimum in the NFC Championship is between 50 and 75 thousand and for the Super Bowl the minimum is 100 grand."

I went to Bengals' training camp the other day, and there was one thing that really stuck out to me: the size of the players in regard to their listed height. Two players, in particular, seemed a bit off:

QB Carson Palmer is listed at 6'5", but is probably closer to 6'8". The guy is freakin' HUGE. I'm 6'4", and he towered over me.

DE Michael Johnson is listed at 6'7", but is a hair shorter than I am. He seemed really slight for a defensive end.

Ever wonder why players lie about their size? Could it be as simple as insecurity, at least in Johnson's case? Could it be that Carson Palmer was afraid he'd be converted into a lineman because of his size? Maybe Johnson was afraid he'd be converted to linebacker if he was listed at his actual height?hell if I know. I just find it odd.

Sigs are for sissies.

Derrick Brooks' phone finally rang...

Saints Invite Brooks for Workout

Hey Bucco, if your cuz becomes a Saint, work on him for a game-worn jersey for me, ok? B)

I can try...but I ain't gon' make no promises. ^_^

And I can't even imagine how awkward it's gon' be if Bo does sign on with the Saints...only to then watch them beat up on my Buccaneers twice this year.

(FWIW, though, the Buccanners are installing an entirely new defense this year, so it ain't like Bo could give Sean Payton any "inside tips" any more. Not like that offense needs it, though--they're potent enough as is.)

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

Well good thing for you most of his time will be spent on the sidelines. I love Derrick Brooks, he created my greatest sports memory ever by pick-sixing Gannon to seal 37, but truth of the matter is, he just doesn't have it anymore. I watched the final few games of last season more than once trying to figure out just what the hell went wrong. I expected it to be Barber, but what I saw really surprised me. Barber may not have the athletic ability he once had, but he still can work his ass off and counter that somewhat. Brooks unfortunately couldn't. The way he was outrun in the last few games against showed me that he just doesn't have enough in the tank anymore. Too bad really, him and Lynch we're two of the scariest dudes I've ever seen on a football field. Sad that they both will probably meet the same unceremonious fate.

I'm on a Saints e-mail distribution list and they desperately need spell check, unless we now have a government agency looking after people who rent rooms. This is about the pre-game fesitivities Friday night vs. the Bengals.

He should spend a little more time behind bars as well. Not !@#$% 30 days.

Look, he got less because he:

-Aggreed to pay the family

-Cooperated with authorities

-Called 911 immediately

-Pled guilty

Also, having a good lawyer doesn't help. Plus, he can never drive in the state of Florida again IIRC.

To be fair, I am of the understanding that Stallworth could have been stone sober and that guy still would have been hit. That's what happens when you suddenly dash in front of a reasonably swift vehicle on the road.

Some guy on Bleacher Report says that Vick signed with the Eagles.

The unexpected has just happened.

I was watching the CBS news and a reporter just announced Vick has agreed to a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The signing hasn't been reported by ESPN, but should be soon.

Vick is going to be on 60 Minutes Sunday at 7:00 P.M. so this may make the interview a little more interesting.

There aren't any other details but I will be sure to post it.

Considering this is coming from a guy on Bleacher Report, I don't believe it. But if it's true, then Week 12 at the Georgia Dome is going to be a circus. Just what we need. -_- At least he's back with a team, if this is true.

Schefter has nothing yet, although it is rumored that Vick is trying out for Paula Abdul's job on American Idol and in a golf foursome. ( :P^_^ )

Well...Mort is now saying this has happened, but Mort also thinks that Marshall Faulk is poised for a great season in St. Louis.

Also, WTH? Reid as a support system? Didn't his own kids go to jail for running a "drug emporium."

Well, Adam "I never lie, word is bond" Schefter just congratulated Mortensen on getting the story, so yeah, it's happened.

So...what are the odds his employers as of this coming Monday forced him to feed that story to Mort?
