I know the Chargers will wear their AFL throwbacks for three games and the regualr powder blue alts twice....which leads me to ask this question...

How is it that teams such as San Diego and Denver can wear three different alternates/throwbacks this year when they can usually only wear one for no more than two games?

Not verified yet, but Atlanta supposedly will wear their throwbacks against Carolina on September 20 and New Orleans on December 13.

And, their black alts on October 18th against Chicago and against Tampa Bay on November 29th.

Honestly, I would have thought they would have worn it against the Bills given the fact that 1) the Falcons are only wearing the home (black) throwbacks and 2) the Bills have both a home and road version of the retro set. My guess would have been that the Falcons were wearing the retro set against an original AFL team.

Denver is.

And that's great news. 3 games in Orange. Delicious. They'll be terrible this year, but they'll look good.

Maybe the throwbacks get a pass. Who knows.

I'm guessing that the NFL is bending its rules on this for this season to accommodate the 50th season of the AFL teams. Just a guess.
