Thank goodness. The old court design was the worst in the league and I'm including that with Milwaukee and Minnesota.

Also, I don't think you need to worry about their logo being "rectangled". I'm willing to wager that is just some kind of border that every team's logo fits into. Everywhere else the logo has appeared it's been rectangle free.

You'd lose that wager.

That's the actual primary logo. The least-dynamic logo in the entire NBA.

Fortunately, the team will never use it for anything, opting instead for the ball logo.

Unfortunately, licensees will use it because it's considered "primary".

Man, does that court suck. I was at least hoping that they'd go with something similar to the '96 court with all the stars - not something so predictable and corny.

I fail to see how regression is the answer. I get that people hated the black. I've already made my points about that, so I won't repeat here.

No, the rectangle is officially the "primary logo" for the Sixers, but you're right that they will use it sans-rectangle more often than not.

also, im liking that court...some nice paint in the paint area and nothing else to clutter the court up. Seems that Philly is on a HUGE minimalist kick, but its working in some respects.

What happened to plain old striped cuffs/collars like the Bulls have? I'm surprised they've delayed the inevitable wishbone collars and one-color piping for so long.

Here's a quick mock up of the new uniform plus older uniforms to compare.

The Sixers have upgraded each time, but they need a few more tweaks to really have an amazing set.

Suck. Suck. And Mega-Suck.

I sincerely believe that if all of these teams hadn't gone so completely off-the charts with designs and colors in the '90s, we wouldn't have the resurgence in "retro" crap that we have now. If teams had just gone through a natural progression of modifications instead of (for example) - Pistons Teal and Warriors' Power Rangers - the old stuff wouldn't look as good as it apparently seems to the majority of fans.

We don't need complete overhauls of identities (for the most part), just bring them along into the present day.

Oh and you forgot one - 1997-1998:

I still cannot believe that the Pistons completely changed their colors to go to that teal scheme. I have repressed all memory of them in action and looking at old pictures and both scary and disturbing...

I think the thing that pisses me off most about this is that it looks like they kept the "retro" number font, as opposed to a more traditional block style, like they wore in the Barkley era.

The font they went with (though I could be wrong, since we've only seen number 11) clashes with the "wordmark" font, and is just sloppy.

I'm with you on this one. Whenever I see that particular variety of block font, with the curved notches on the 1s and the diagonals on the insides of the numerals, the first thought I have is "iron-ons from the local T-shirt shop." The fact that this particular version is also single-color white does it no favors in that regard.

Thank you 76ers for not going with the two-toned wood-stain look.

Kind of disappointed - these aren't bad, but I was under the assumption that they would be making a direct switch back to the throwbacks they wore last year. I like that style a lot - nothing revolutionary, but a good, solid, and classic design.

On the bright side, at least they didn't end up with that horrible neckline style that Adidas/Reebok foisted upon Orlando and Indiana.

have to get this "should have" out of my system:

[previous pic]

...sometimes i just cant help it.

Red script would've looked better for the white homes.

like so?

76ersIdea2.png

*also edited the number font to match the wordmark.

for those who like the new "no stroke" wordmark:

76ersIdea3.png

...i'll admit, on paper these look a bit nicer, but I still think 1 color wordmarks should be left to the Celts and screenprinted uniforms.

Millions times better than what they had. I do agree with everyone that the wordmark and numbers should have been outlined. The main thing I don't like though is the prevalence of the logo with the basketball. Other than the dumb rectangle logo and the basketball, the logos look fine. The basketball's design just makes it look so damn old.

Even though I consider this an upgrade, I'm disappointed. The Sixers have so many unique elements from their past unis that they could and should have incorporated here.

That's a fair assessment. But that's what happens when you sell out your tradition and your merchandising possibilities to a certain youth demographic based on what they deem to be the hot flavor of the month, all for the sake of more merchandise sales. That's what you get for hiring marketing people who cater to the lowest common denominator. We don't need every team to wear red now, just like we didn't need every team in black earlier this decade or every team in teal in the '90s.

I'm glad the Sixers are re-emphasizing red, white and blue for obvious reasons, but also because it was their identity for a long, long time. But there are teams currently wearing red who should ditch it (that means you, Astros), just like there are teams who either had (Rangers, Royals) or have black (Mets) who need/needed to lose it. Had the Diamondbacks come out with red upon their inception, I think it would be a lot more acceptable. But then, had they decided 10 years ago to embrace red because it reflected state colors (which is BS, they went with red because it's the hot color now), then they probably wouldn't have picked the purple, turquoise and black (which happened to be the hot colors of the late '90s).

Also, a lot of the re-designs this decade have been pretty bad. The Bills had a decent uniform, not great but not bad. Then they added navy blue, tried to weave royal blue in with it, added side panels that clash with the pants striping, went with a different-colored shoulder yoke on the white jerseys and they look like crap now. That's why so many people want the standing buffalo back, even though that logo looks like a piece of clip art. The Cardinals took a simple (albeit a tad boring) uniform and added a bunch of nonsensical piping, underarm coloring and weird pants striping. The Seahawks re-do wouldn't have been so bad had they not mucked up the white jerseys and insisted on monochrome from head to knee with the home uniform. I won't even get into the Vikings here, but the only thing they've done right with their uniforms happened BEFORE their new design when they finally attempted to get the helmets and jerseys closer to matching purple. And the Jaguars' new jersey has clunky numbers and more chest horns. Oh, joy!!

Most of the designs these days have piping that has no rhyme or reason. The philosophy seems to be: "Let's put color or piping here because it's never been done like that. Who care if it's looks like a sports bra -- it's our imprint." No, it makes your uniform look like crap. Give us some contemporary designs that look decent, and maybe we won't long for the "good old days" so much. Let's face it, there were a lot of bad uniform ideas in the "good old days", too. All-powder blue baseball uniforms are as bad of an idea now as they were 30, 35 years ago.

I was with you til here... I agree that with certain teams (Cards, Phils) powder blue didn't make any sense, but for others (Brewers, Royals, Blue Jays) it fit the color scheme better than grey.
