Memphis Final Four Appereance and wins record to be vacated

I personally think that vacating wins is the stupidest penalty to hand out, especially on something like this.

What does it do the the people that purpotrated the crime? Nothing. What does it do to the school? Nothing really. So it takes wins out of the books, but everyone knows what happened. People will remember this Memphis team, so it's not like it didn't exist. Vacating wins doesn't really do anything in situations where it was one person that got caught for whatever.

If it was a team-wide cheating/whatever scandal, then vacating the wins seems appropriate because it was more than one person's doing. It was the whole team.

There has to be a way to punish Rose and Calipari, but there isn't, especially with Rose and Cal in the NBA and Kentucky, respectively. I think this is a situation while they found out these things, that they could have let it go, because they couldn't punish the parties involved and the university couldn't have done much.

Memphis' AD even said at the time that they checked it twice and through an independent source got his records checked and there were no flags. Memphis did their due diligence, just the means of how they did it apparently didn't work.

It certainly does hurt Memphis. They have to pay back all of the money they made from that tournament run. Yes, people will always remember that team and the free throws they missed down the stretch, but they will also remember the scandal of Rose (and Robert Dozier) and the fact that the season was effectively wiped out by the NCAA. You can't have one without the other.

People will always remember the performance enhancing drugs that Alex Roidriguez, Roidger Clemens, Barroid Bonds, and the others took, right?
