The homerism is stupendous.

By the way the Washington Huskies will be 1-11 this year. They will actually beat Washington State.

You're nuts, DarkJourney. You mean to tell me that Idaho, who hasn't beaten the Huskies in 100 years (0-30-1 since 1909) and lost 17 straight to Washington, is going to beat the Huskies?!?

LOL!

Saturday: North Carolina Tar Heels--loads of talent, lots of question marks. Offensive success depends on the line staying healthy, because injuries have already shredded the o-line depth. As long as we have decent blocking, we should have our best running back situation since before John Bunting thought it was a good idea to bench Willie Parker, with Shaun Draughn, Jamal Womble, and Ryan Houston splitting time in the backfield. Receivers are a big question mark, but there's a lot of athleticism there. On the defensive side, the talent finally puts it all together to become the dominant unit the pundits already think they are.

Regular season record: 10-2, which won't get them a spot in the ACC title game, but will be enough for a spot in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, where they face a surprising Syracuse team led to a 9 win record by transfer QB/PG Greg Paulus. After finally making it through an entire regular season without injury, TJ Yates goes down with a broken arm in the first quarter, leaving the charge of winning to backup Mike Paulus. In one of the most epic games in NCAA football history, dubbed the battle of the Pauli by ESPN, the two teams go back and forth, until finally Mike connects to Josh Adams for the game-winning TD as time expires, giving UNC the win and Greg one last chance to lose to the Tar Heels.

Sunday: Carolina Panthers--Nightmare Schedule? The Panthers play in the NFC South, and have to play the NFC East and AFC East this season. The only team on their schedule that had a losing record last year was Buffalo, at 7-9. All eyes will be on Jake Delhomme after his playoff melt down, but they should be on our defense, which was woeful last year without run stuffer Maake Kemoeatu, whom we've already lost for the season. If the coaches play to the team's strengths (aka Steve Smith, DeAngelo Williams, and Jonathan Stewart) the team could post a winning record, but I have a feeling history will repeat itself and the Panthers will follow up a strong '08 campaign with a lackluster showing in 2009.

Final record: 7-9, good for third in the NFC South, and a new head coach in 2010.

Trivia: In the 14 seasons of their existence, the Panthers have finished with a 7-9 record on six different occasions, and like their fellow NFC South team, the Atlanta Falcons, they have never posted back-to-back winning seasons.

I am more of a Patriots fan than anything, but I thought it would be more fun to consider the prospects for last years perfect [ly bad] Detroit Lions

@ N O Saints Loss

vs Minnesota Vikings loss (0-2)

vs Washington Redskins loss (0-3)

@ Chicago Bears loss (0-4) (Lions fans getting desperate at this point!!!!)

vs Pittsburgh Steelers loss (0-5) (Lions with a tough home schedule at this point, looking very glum)

@ Green Bay Packers WIN (1-5) (Detroit explodes as its Football team goes to Green Bay and gets the W)

BYE WEEK (Detroit need the break after the celebrations!)

vs St Louis Rams WIN (2-5) (Lions now on a 2 game winning run!!)

@ Seattle Seahawks loss (2-6)

@ Minnesota Vikings loss (2-7) (Bubble well and truly burst by now!)

vs Cleveland Browns WIN (3-7)

vs Green Bay Packers WIN (4-7) (3 game home winning run going now!)

@ Cincinnati Bengals WIN (5-7) (Yep Lions at 5-7, 5-2 since breaking the losing run)

@ Baltimore Ravens loss (5-8) (Dreams of a winning season go up in smoke)

vs Arizona Cardinals loss (5-9) (3 game winnning run well and truly snapped)

@ San Francisco 49ers loss (5-10)

vs Chicago Bears loss (5-11)

Despite a 4 game winning run at the end there, I think Lions fans would be ok with that season. Maybe winning in Green Bay might be a stretch, but even 4-12 would be a level of success for Jim Schwartz in his first season.

Incidentally, what would the Lions do with the number 1 pick next year, with a lot of good QBs out there? Can they afford to pass on a QB and look to strengthen another area?? (Part of the reason I didn't think taking Stafford was a good move!)

He isn't being a buzzkill, Gary. He noticed what I noticed, and that was what DarkJourney said.

You see, at this point you might as well just stop trying because nothing is going to bother me at this point. Come on, I've seen an 0-12 season from the Huskies so anything you can dish isn't as painful as that.

I couldn't see another 0-12, but at the same time, they could shock the world by going 12-0. They have a good team, but I just can't see them going 12-0, but there are teams that have come out and shocked me. I think Washington will go 7-5

You're thinking way too high, Gary. Not only would that mean beating the few patsies they do play (Idaho and Wazzu), but that also means they need five more wins and I honestly find that hard to find with the kind of schedule U-Dub plays this season.

You can throw out LSU and Notre Dame and even the top three in the Pac-10 (USC, Cal and Oregon). That leaves the middle of the Pac-10 (Arizona State, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA and Arizona).... I guess it's plausible.

The problem isn't having a favorite, it's being so blinded by homereroticism that one thinks their suck ass team is actually a contender for a decent record, division/league championship, etc.
