Axis_of_Weasel
i got a 7 1/8 hat online and to say it doesnt fit is an understatement. and the front panel is friggin HUGE. its like i wearing a billboard on my head. you could fit a pillow underneath. plus if i pull the hat down, it starts to bump into my ears. the rim size fits, but nothing else about the hat does. whose gigantic friggin head are they supposed to fit??!@!thank god i only paid 10 bucks for it. though its still a waste. TBGKon
Depends on the version you have, the newer ones made of the performance materials seem to be of better quality
Snarf
The first thing I do when I get a new baseball hat is soak it down and wear it around the house for a while. It usually takes two or three times, but they fit better then any hat after that.
lahaye7
you might want to try a low crown version, much better fit. I only find them here http://www.minorleagues.com/mlblowcrown.html I am sore, wounded, but not slainI will lay down and bleed a whileAnd then rise up to fight again
BBTV
Now that's an idea. If only I trusted ordering fitted hats on-line. Seems like the kind of thing you really need to try on. CanesCop86
I bought my first two 5950s the same weekend, a Marlin and a Bluejays, both in 7 1/8. The marlins hat sits low but the Toronto hat fits perfectly. It's annoying as all get out that you have to try on every hat you buy even if it's the exact same size. I don't personally care to stick my head in a cap where somebody elses head had been without washing it.

Too bad nobody has the one I'm looking for in S-M. ColeJ
the problem is, axis, it's not about the size of your head... i wear between a 7 7/8 and 8, and they look ridiculous on me, too.they stay in proportion even in larger sizes. i've got a shaved head too, which makes it feel even weirder to wear. no hair filling up the empty space. makes me look and feel like elmer fudd.and i can't usually try on hats before i buy them, because it's damn near impossible to find any hats that fit me in a store. Sc8b
I know some people don't like to do it, but I always rip out the plastic insides that make the front panel stand up. Then I turn on the shower to the highest temp I can stand, soak the hat, and wear it in the shower for 15 minutes or so. Then I get out and let it dry to my head. I still have a couple hats that are a little loose even after that, but about 25/30 fitted new eras that I have fit perfectly from doing that. And 2 of the ones that don't fit are the old Diamond Collection ones, which aren't so receptive to that treatment.
BBTV
The problem is that the point of the new material counteracts any of those techniques. From everything I've read here, and heard from the guys at Lids, the hot-water thing doesn't work anymore. Firefly
Yep. I wear a size 8 and my new 5950 had that billboard look in the front until I cut out the backing. It sits lower now and has a slightly deflated look. That's fine for me because I like it to have a lived-in look.
FiddySicks
I find it to be funny that so many people have problems with the shape of the hat. I find that 59fiftys are the only hats that don't look completely stupid on me. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) You're right though, it's not the magic bullet it used to be. What you're left with is a hat where the front pretty much rests on your head, but has a little excess fabric. I still prefer this to the billboard look, so I rip out the insides regardless.
zmspartans
usually once i wear a 5950 hat a couple times it starts to break in and the problem is solved . i dont really mind them . but you got a 5950 hat for $10 ?
Matito
I picked up a Durham Bulls 5950 back in July. When I first got it, it did look and feel like a billboard, but I've noticed two things about it:1. It does wear in. Depending on lots of different factors (weather, sweat, how often you wear it, etc.), it may take longer for some than others, but it will wear in eventually.2. It doesn't look quite as bad as you think. The day I got it, my family and I went to a Bulls game, and my parents had a camera, and looking at the pics, the cap doesn't look as dumb as I felt it did. EatSleepJeep
Even after breaking down the crown, I end up with two "ears" at the corners of the front panels made by the extra material. The new material 5950s don't respond to the hot water treatment as well as the old ones, but there's still some improvement. I also fill a coffee mug with near boiling water and then roll the bill and insert it into the mug. It seems to take a good, permanent set as it cools helping to get rid of the flat bill that seems to be all too popular with the youths.
