damned devils...couldn't win just one more game so we could see Montreal vs. Toronto...

East

Islanders- think they're ripe for an upset

Habs- if not, i'm out 2 cases of beer...

Flyers - think they have at least enough to beat the devils

Leafs

with the exeption of the Lightning/Islanders series, the East has three great match-ups, lots of history here. Can't wait

West

Red Wings- unless they end up sliding out like last year, but not against the Preds (please?)

Avs- Abersher is hot, thats all they need

The last two for me are too close, Sharks/Blues will be a good one, and another all Canadian match-up, Canuckleheads and Flames, you know Calagry is gonna be hot for those games.

It's kinda funny that there are two Canadian vs. Canadian games in the first round, at least we're guarenteed some teams in the second round

eastern conference

1-Tampa Bay vs 8 New York Islanders

Islanders in 6... the Lightning are a great team, and if they were facing almost any other team i'd give them the nod... but they have had serious problems with the Islanders this season, including two losses to them in March

2- Boston vs 7 Montreal

Bruins in 5... the Habs picked a bad time to get cold, unfortunately, the Bruins will win these games with ease, while the Habs will get a blowout win, probably in game one

3-Philadelphia vs 6 New Jersey

Devils in 7... the devils play perfect playoff hockey, what else can I say? These games will be low scoring, but Brodeur trumps Burke.

4-Toronto vs 5 Ottawa

Leafs in 6... maybe i'm picking with my heart, but the Sens have been a piece of cake for the Leafs this season, especially with last nights 6-0 drubbing included. The more games Lalime is out, the fewer games it takes for the Leafs to end this series

***

western conference

1-Detroit vs 8 Nashville

Red Wings in 4... the red wings have learned a thing or two after last seasons playoff debacle. the preds wouldn't be here without Steve Sullivan, and the Wings have more than enough to take care of him during games.

2-San Jose vs 7 Saint Louis

Sharks in 7... the blues are stronger than they have played this season, it's a just a shame they will continue to play that way in this series, as the sharks ride the cheechoo train into the second round

3-Vancouver vs 6 Calgary

Flames in 6... kiprusoff appears to be the perfect playoff goaltender, and he'll help carry the flames deep, the canucks will feel the loss of bertuzzi, who is a great playoff performer.

4-Colorado vs 5 Dallas

Stars in 5... just as their nicknames state, the Stars are shooting, and the Avalanche are falling fast. the loss of patrick roy will be felt in this series, as the stars go to town on the avs

eastern conference

1-Tampa Bay vs 8 New York Islanders - Isles looking to be the upset team, but go down in 7.

2- Boston vs 7 Montreal - I saw the Bruins play last week... they're looking tough and will go a few rounds. Boston in 6.

3-Philadelphia vs 6 New Jersey - I'd like to see 'em both lose, but I'll take the lesser of two evils, which ironically is the Devils in 6.

4-Toronto vs 5 Ottawa - Ottawa needs a bye to get out of the first round...must we go through this every year? Leafs in 5.

western conference

1-Detroit vs 8 Nashville - Seems like the Wings either get upset in the first round or win a Cup. Neither is happening this year - put 'em in the next round after 5.

2-San Jose vs 7 Saint Louis - This one's my pick to be a sweep. Sharks in 4.

3-Vancouver vs 6 Calgary - Guilty... I mean Vancouver, 4-3.

4-Colorado vs 5 Dallas - Stars in 7.

Early Stanley Cup Finals Pick:

Boston Bruins vs. Detroit Red Wings

I know I said New Jersey and Detroit for the Cup in other threads, but I'm thinking Boston looks the strongest in the East to me right now. Tampa Bay won't hold up longer than the second round, if they can even manage to beat the Isles. I think they can but it may take them all seven games to do it.

I think the Preds might give the Wings a run for their money, although I don't expect Detroit to get bounced like they did last year. I would love to see a Canucks/Avs matchup in the semis, but I really don't see the Avs beating the Stars, sadly.

Oh, what the hey...

Round 1

Detroit vs Nashville - Detroit in 6

The Preds actually gave the Wings some fits this year, splitting the season series. I expect the Wings to pull it out, but don't expect it to be as much of a cake walk as you would normally think, especially if Vokoun gets hot.

San Jose vs St. Louis - St. Louis in 7

Ok, it's a bit of a homer pick, but the way the Blues have been playing over the last month, I think they can pull it out. Granted, they had to play that way just to make it to this point, but they did it. San Jose isn't exactly slumping into the playoffs, either. This should be an outstanding series.

Vancouver vs Calgary - Calgary in 6

Better goaltending, as in most series, will likely tell the tale in this series. While Vancouver had an outstanding season, their goaltending looked shaky at times. Kiprusoff is a huge part of the reason the Flames have made it this far.

Colorado vs Dallas - Dallas in 6

Dallas is streaking, Colorado's been slumping. Colorado is banged up. None of this is a good sign. Dallas is a bruising team, especially in the playoffs.

Tampa Bay vs NY Islanders - Tampa Bay in 5

What's that beeping sound? Oh, right, the Isles backing their way into the playoffs. They should have wrapped up the last spot weeks ago, but instead kept letting Buffalo have hope. The Lightning are no fluke, I say.

Boston vs Montreal - Boston in 7

Man, a Bruins/Habs series. Who wrote this script, eh? The thirtieth postseason meeting between these clubs should be a dandy. Thornton's injury is a dicey situation, but Boston's overall strength should allow them to outlast the Canadiens in a tough series.

Philadelphia vs New Jersey - New Jersey in 7

This series should be brutal. Get out the ice packs, boys, you're gonna need 'em! In a tight series, go with the better goalie--and, let's face it, there's none better in the NHL right now than Martin Brodeur.

Toronto vs Ottawa - Ottawa in 6

Another "Battle of Ontario" matchup between two very even teams. I expect Ottawa's team speed to win the series for them.

Round 2

Detroit vs St. Louis - Detroit in 5

The Blues will do well enough to get past San Jose. Beating Detroit will be a much taller order, and unfortunately, they're not prepared to get the job done.

Dallas vs Calgary - Calgary in 7

In a hard-fought series, the Flames should pull it out in a squeaker.

Tampa Bay vs New Jersey - New Jersey in 7

The Lightning are a good team, no doubt, but the Devils will be too strong and too experienced for them. Don't expect the Bolts to roll over and die--the Devils will have to use everything they have, especially the exploits of Brodeur, to pull out the win.

Boston vs Ottawa - Ottawa in 6

After being Toronto, the Sens will be hungry to face New Jersey in a rematch of last year's conference final. The Bruins, provided they make it past the Habs, may be too beat up to compete with the speedy Senators.

Conference Finals

Detroit vs Calgary - Detroit in 6

Detroit will be too much for the Flames, provided their goaltending can provide a stable foundation.

Ottawa vs New Jersey - Ottawa in 7

Remember last year's conference final? Yeah, these teams do, too. Expect the same tooth-and-nail battle, but this time, Ottawa will be hungry enough to take it.

Stanley Cup Final

Detroit vs Ottawa - Detroit in 6

Two teams with a lot of speed will face off. A high-scoring final series will put the finishing touches on Detroit's purch... er, Cup win.
