Brian in Boston
Isn't the truth that usually it has a lot to do with which teams are being succesful at that time?Absolutely. When I was coming of age as a sports fan in Eastern Massachusetts in the mid-1970s, the breakdown would have been...1) Boston BruinsTie 2) Boston Red SoxTie 2) Boston Celtics4) College hockey program of choice5) High school hockey program of choice6) New England Patriots (and a DISTANT sixth-place, at that)7) Remainder of college athletic program of choice8) Boston Minutemen9) Boston LobstersBy the early-to-mid-1980s the breakdown would have been...1) Boston CelticsTie 2) Boston BruinsTie 2) Boston Red Sox4) College hockey program of choice4.5) Doug Flutie and the BC Eagles football program5) High school hockey program of choice6) New England Patriots7) Remainder of college athletic program of choice8) New England Tea MenToday, the breakdown would be...Tie 1) Boston Red SoxTie 1) New England Patriots3) Boston Celtics (would have swapped places with #4 last season)4) Boston Bruins (would have swapped places with #3 last season)5) College hockey program of choice6) High school hockey program of choice7) Remainder of college athletic program of choice8) New England Revolution9) Boston Cannons10) Boston Blazers11) Boston Breakers12) Boston Lobsters
FamousAtticus
Top teams in Orlando(Central Florida):1. Univ. of Florida (The biggest bandwagon in the state)2. Orlando Magic (Alot of people have jumped on board after last years run)3. UCF football4. Tampa Bay Bucs (Maybe not after this year)5. FSU/Univ. of Miami6. Yankees/Red Sox/Rays (In this order)7. Dolphins8. Steelers (We even have a Steelers themed bar?!?)9. Jaguars (They may bump up if they do infact play a few games here in the future)10. Gets a little crazy here...High school football, Tampa Bay Lightning, NY Giants, Atlanta Braves, Marlins, Patriots, Eagles, Celtics, Lakers, etc.The only thing certain is numbers 1 & 2 after that it fluctuates every other year...its a large variety of out-of-town fans and too many fairweather fans in this town/region. The_Admiral
My take on Chicago:BearsCubsWhite SoxBlackhawksBullsThe Bulls are so not dead last right now. As high as interest in the Blackhawks' postseason was last spring, interest in the Bulls' postseason was as high or higher, and all the Bulls did was take more time than expected to lose in the first round to a mediocre old team without its best player. The Bulls have successfully marketed their first-round loss to dizzying heights. It's uncanny. You'd think this team had never been in a best-of-seven before, let alone won one, let alone won many, let alone won six goddamned championships. Anyway, my point is that lots of people care about the Bulls. The Sox are going to slide back down into obscurity if they don't have a winning record next year. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
schtee
Can you Chitown posters explain why the White Sox get no love? As an outsider, I don't get it. They've won a World Series recently, they've been steadily competitive, they've got the South Side to themselves, plus they can draw in people who don't like the Cubs. @aghease
