One of the local sports stations (WIP) reporting that Placido Polanco will probably be the Phillies third baseman next season.

The other one (ESPN) reporting that Mark DeRosa is likely to be manning the hot corner.

Either way, I guess either they're not going to pay for Figgins, or maybe they know that he doesn't want to leave Anaheim.

Looks like Lincecum is going to win the NL Cy Young Award for the second straight year.

Sweet. So how soon til we see him in pinstripes?

The Phillies have to lock up Cliff Lee long term before they can figure out how to fit Lincecum into the budget.

Oh THOSE pinstripes.

I was thinking the Rockies.

I wonder iof Lincecum won because Wainwright and Carpenter splt the vote, I don't think he was the right choice, but with two teammates fighting it out and none of the three having jump off the page stats a very close vote could have been to his benefit.

Yeah, totally lame. How could the voters not recognize the superiority of the Cardinals in ALL aspects. God, it's like they all have something against us!

I may be missing your sarcasm instead of the other way around, but I was clear that I can't actually qualm with the results, right?

I just (1) really hoped one the Cardinals would win it, and (2) had kind of come to expect it. Most outlets had them as the favorites.

The only voters that got anything wrong were the two that didn't even put Carp on the ballot. But between the three options, there was no wrong call.

Lincecum was absolutely the right choice... in fact, so far, as far as the "big awards" (ignoring the :censored:storm that was the Golden Gloves), they've only missed (pretty big) on ROY. Everything else has been really solid.

I will argue the suggestion that he was "absolutely the right choice". There was not an absolutely right choice at all. It was one of the closest votes ever for a reason.

Self-loathing.

I dunno, I haven't really cared about individual awards since 2005, when I got really pouty over Emeka Okafor beating out Ben Gordon for NBAROTY, which made no sense to me since Gordon was an integral part of the Bulls' renaissance season and Okafor racked up stats on a really bad team. Other than that, I let them come and go with little attention. Nobody throws a parade for a Cy Young award.

Yup.

Lincecum wins back-to-back

Can we go back and time and still make this happen?

That's some fantastic bit of information.
