But I'm just saying...They wore these uniforms...and got their first win...So we might be seeing a lot more of these (don't be surprised if it's full-time as soon as the NFL allows)

1) Glazer's not a fan of this look. It won't see primary status.

2) In these the Bucs were, mostly, the joke of the NFL. The current set, however, is associated with a Super Bowl win.

3) The throwbacks have a great novelty factor, but really aren't that good

4) People are absolutely NUTS if they think Tampa is gonna ditch the current set for these

5) The majority of prople who actually want to see the throwbacks worn on a full-time basis are those who are too young to even remember the "Yuckaneer" years.

6) Bucco Bruce SUCKS.

All true. But the one-day return of Bucco Bruce & The Creamsicles does make me wonder if an orange alt based on the current uniform style wouldn't work. I know it's really too close the regular red jesery, but what if they semi-retired the white pants and only wore them with an orange alt jersey (wearing only the pewter pants with the red and white jerseys)?

I like the look, but wouldn't mind seeing the Bucs go with a modern orange alt, based on the current set. Orange is a minor color of the pewter and red scheme, I just dont know how a pewter helmet and orage jersey would look. Maybe the throwback idea is the best bet.

Pewter helmet with an orange jersey would be an automatic mess, no matter what color pants that they wear with it. So yeah, once again, throwback as an alt would be the best thing for the Bucs to do, if they ever decide to bring it back on a "full-time" basis.

I mean, the Chargers did it for-freaking-ever with the powder blue throwbacks, why not the Bucs? :P

Buccaneers should really start fresh, if anything. Come up with something a little more abstract and interesting than "yarrrgh, a football skeleton this be!"

This team should really get more derision for their stadium as well, which they only avoided by being good at football once. "Yarrrrrgh, fire me cannons, we're in the red zone! Grab the wheel of me pirate ship! Let's watch the game from the pirate's cove!" Look at Lambeau Field, and look at this place. The Buccaneers basically play in a cartoon.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

I couldn't disagree with you more, matey. I love how the Bucs have handled their current identity, especially the "cartoon" of a stadium they play in.

Comparing Lambeau to Raymond James Stadium is just nonsense.

I'll agree with Braden; I like the atmosphere of the Bucs stadium (though I've never been there). While not up there with the Packers' Lambeau in terms of history, it fits their identity. As for their uniforms, they should seriously embrace the red-orange side of their identity. I mean, who else wears those colors? Together?

I think it can work, wether they go back to Creamsicle Orange or stick with this current orange in their set (which doesn't appear to be the same), and wether or not they stick with red as the main color. Maybe adding some gun-metal gray would work, too.

Some of y'all really tryna work my nerves up in here, ain't y'all??? ^_^

Listen...in all seriousness, though...

...Those of you advocating for a full-time return to the creamsicle set are going to be sadly disappointed. I'm most likely the foremost Bucco Bruce/creamsicle fanatic up in here--hell...look at my damn screen handle!--but not even I would want the Buccaneers to do that. Though the creamsicles represent the "look of a perennial loser", to those of us who grew up under the old identity, it goes way deeper than that. Don't get me wrong...I like the current set too, but I'm perfectly fine seeing the original creamsicle set worn as an alternate once or twice a year or every other year. I think only those of us deep-rooted in Buccaneer Nation and who grew up under the old colors/identity understand the nostalgic connection and adoration for the old colors, the original set. :D

...Speaking of which, for the absolute last time, for those who ain't caught it yet...the 1976 sets were chosen because those sets represent the beginning of Buccaneer history. Just because the team chose to honor the 1979 team does NOT mean they should have worn the 1979 set...that wasn't the point. The point was honoring the origins. And I believe they did a better job of that than most of the AFC teams have done thus far in honoring their AFL origins.

...As for the current sets, here's where I believe I differ from most people, both within Buc Nation and without: I actually think the Buccaneers, when/if they choose to update their identity, should just ax the orange out altogether. 1997 was a turning point in Buccaneer history. (Actually, the previous year was...but follow me here.) Though I can see why they chose to keep the orange in the then-new identity to begin with, it's a new day and age now...especially with an entirely new regime in place. Plus, the orange, to me at least, actually clutters up the look of the uniforms just a little bit. And now that the creamsicles are back (and will be as an alt option for at least the next five years), I can get my orange fill from those. I say that, in the next update should one come, do like damn near every piece of Bucs team apparel does now and stick to red, pewter, and black. Keep it simple.

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

Raymond James Stadium is one of the finest football facilities in the country.

I love the cheesy 1970's "GO PACK GO" song they play ad nauseum at Packer games too. But that's OK, right because its "LAMBEAU FIELD!!!!".

The cannons being fired at Tampa and the pirate ship are great and UNIQUE to any other team in the league. In a sometimes sterile league, there is nothing wrong with that.

I've made a few concepts doing just that, and the biggest problem with it you've already pointed out. It's just too similar. It would be like the Patriots silver jersey and just look overwashed IMO. But if the NFL was to allow them to wear an alternate helmet (White or orange helmet with the ship on it and some stripes and an black or red facemask) they could wear it with the white pants and it'd look great, much like the Chargers current powder blue sets.

Yeah, fans at Raymond James don't wear a block of cheese on their heads :D

I've been to two games at Raymond James Stadium, both last season; one preseason game against New England and the final game of the year against Oakland. Both times, the fans were into the game a lot more than I've seen at other stadiums, and I believe that the overall atmosphere of RJS helps with that.

As far as the orange alt idea, I'm for it, but it wouldn't look good with the pewter helmet. If the NFL would finally allow alt helmets, then maybe we could get this helmet.

AltBucsLog3.jpg

Of course, I wouldn't mind them switching to that full time.

Here's the deal on the jerseys. These jerseys were the original orange jerseys from the 1976 season. They only worn them once, a pre-season game against Miami. They wore the white jerseys at home and on the road the rest of the year. As a kid, I wrote the team a letter and ask them why they never wore the orange as I really like the shade. They replied by saying fans sitting high up in the stands could not make out the numbers on the orange clearly. They "redesigned" the jersys so the numbers would show up better on the orange for the 1977 season along with switching to red numbers on the white jerseys. Yes, the jerseys yesterday were "a lighter shade of orange" than in the latter part of the 70s and 80s. They "darken" the light orange slightly after the 76 season. If you noticed the shade of orange jerseys the 1979 team players were wearing was a darker orange than the team wore on the field yesterday which was historicly correct. The numbers were screen printed and the orange striped socks were what they worn in 1976. The team will wear the throwbacks again for at least one game a year over the next 5 years as required by the league.

Where is this documented? I can think of several throwback jerseys that were worn as one-game / one-season deals (the Eagles yellow/light blue comes to mind).

I understand saying that if you come out with a new jersey, you can't come out with another new one for five seasons, but not a rule that states that you have to actually wear it. I'd love to see what the actual rule is regarding this. It's been brought up several times on the boards before, and so far, it's all just hearsay.

I can't believe how scared some people seem to be about the fact the team may actually wear the 76 orange jerseys again in the future....Its not that their switching to them full time, its just an alternate. If you have an alternate, you should wear them at least once a year, if not more. What's the point of having them if you are just going to wear them once ? And whats wrong with the shade of orange ? The University of Tennessee wears the same shade and no one seems to complain about that. I really don't think its the orange but rather the orange shade being associated with a pirate really doesn't work but the pastel orange does seem the fit the warm sunny climate of Florida.
