Division 1 College Conference Realignment

So this morning we had a concrete radio station (KTCK) and host (Craig Miller) in Dallas which the timeline was "something this week" and this afternoon we have a unnamed Tampa station and uncredited host with a claim of an action occurring next week.

Everything is TIFWIW. It is interesting that FSU always comes up. Interesting that they didn't want the buyout increase. Interesting that Maryland left the "stable" ACC. Interesting that FSU has money issues. Interesting that UF makes more than double FSU. Interesting that Fox is making a CFB push.

also is the sun belt going to replace fau and middle tennesse ? if so who do they get? more dominios to fall even at the lower ends....

Yeah, it all trickles down. Changing conferences isn't taboo anymore. It's old hat. I don't know why so many people find it hard to believe. NWO, it's starting.

Names I've heard are Georgia Southern and App State moving up to FBS. I think the Sun Belt might even look into reaching out to NM State and Idaho. Yes, it greatly increases travel but it gives the Sun Belt members already at the FBS level and gives NMSU and Idaho a conference home.

No, he was right. Conference USA also grabbed Florida Atlantic last week.

...here's a hug from all of us to you...it's not you sir it's our fault for not conforming to your reality, we will all try harder next time.

So why wouldn't the big XII grab Louisville and Pitt also since the ACC seems to be going down to the depths of cusa that would give them 14 with FSU and clemson. Two more and you could do some quadrant scheduling the old WAC-ky way. Va tech and vir woul be nice also. Could really set up an east/west division based on geography wouldn't that be crazy

With the Big XII surviving and potentially the ACC also surviving... I could very easily see most conferences sitting at 12 and not expanding to 14 or 16.

I think both the B16 TEN and SEC will be sitting at 16 once the dust settles. But with the TX/OK 4 staying in the Big XII, the PAC-12 is pretty much staying at 12 unless they want to invite Boise State/Nevada/UNLV/UTEP... which I don't see happening.

The Big XII could pull some interest from Cincinatti and Louisville, but I think between the Big East and ACC left overs, there will be some sort of common thought process to keep an eastern/atlantic conference together. It may be the worst of the major conferences, but I think those schools have some pride, some tradition, and try to keep a basketball dominated with solid (.500) football together. Its just a hunch.

As most expect, the B16 TEN and SEC will be the power houses and the PAC-12 and Big XII will still have its years of competition, but it won't be as big of a coup if the OK/TX 4 jumped to the PAC-12.

The depths of CUSA? Are you ripping on UofL/the ACC because UofL used to be in CUSA? Never mind the fact that they've since outgrown that league. Not bad for an athletic department that was in such disarray the CUSA almost kicked them out 15 years ago.

If you're going to base things off of conference teams used to be in, the majority of the ACC and SEC are lowly SoCon teams.

Why would Louisville want to go to the Big XII? Louisville just fits better in the ACC geographically, culturally (basketball), and be in a conference that they have good competition and still have a chance to win it.

Was speaking of the way it seems as though the schools that are competive are leaving and its in disarray and will be in the same boat as cusa trying to grasps at what they can salvage from other mediocre conferences...big east cusa. If FSU falls which it's looking that way I don't see why Clemson won't follow and then why would those big east schools already on their way to the ACC not pull a tcu and head to the three big conferences that surround the region. Louisville cincy va tech vir FSU Clemson Pitt Syracuse any of these 6. That would give you decent travel for w vir as well as some ties that to the big east rivals they began to amount during their rise to the top of that league. FSU and Clemson would just be out of the loop which would suck but they will be good programs in a solid conference with 4 big time schools that won't let it die which the ACC doesn't have ESP after FSU and Clemson leave.

Where are the other Great West Conference members going?

Summit League, Southland; the Great West was basically a holding area for a few otherwise homeless Division I programs that had recently jumped up (or in the case of Chicago State, fled/ragequit the Summit League because it was too hard.) Chicago State really probably shouldn't have a Division I athletic program. Either way, don't cry for it.
