The Horizon is probably looking for someone to help even the numbers since Purdue Fort Wayne joins the league in July.

Robert Morris, being in Pittsburgh, isn't that far off from the league's geographical footprint. It makes sense.

Robert Morris plays just three men's sports the Horizon League offers and dorks up the travel rotations the league has for men's basketball.

But hey, at least it's not Grand Canyon?

No one else in the league is remotely close to be considered a travel partner in men's basketball.

Okay, how far is it from Youngstown to Pittsburgh?

How would they dork up the rotations? If anything, adding them makes it easier.

No one else in the league is remotely close to be considered a travel partner in men's basketball.

The problem is Illinois-Chicago.

Pairs

UW-Milwaukee & UW-Green Bay (Only 2 WI schools and less than 2 hrs apart)

Purdue-Fort Wayne & IUPUI (Only 2 IN Schools and ~2 hrs apart)

Oakland & Detroit-Mercy (Only 2 MI schools and ~1/2 hr apart)

Wright St & NKU (~1 hr apart)

Youngtown St is ~1 hr from both RMU and Cleveland St, who are ~2 hrs from each other.

The only schools that could be paired with UIC would be Loyola-Chicago from the MVC or Eastern Illinois (OVC)/Western Illinois (Summit). However, both EIU and WIU are both ~3 hrs from Chicago and would be the league's most distant travel partners. It might make more sense for the league to add RMU's conference-mate St Francis (~2 hrs away) and try and convince UIC to join another conference.

I did all that and then and remembered about Chicago St, who should jump at any opportunity to leave the WAC. Their closest conference-mate (Not counting Kansas City who is joing The Summit League in the Fall) in the WAC is Tarleton St who is currently transitioning into DI and is over 16 hrs away. The WAC has become a playground for Grand Canyon and New Mexico St to beat up on teams that either just began DI Athletics (Cal Baptist, Dixie St, Tarleton St) or probably shouldn't have them (Chicago St and Seattle) as well as Utah Valley for some reason and UTPA which is over 2 hrs from any other D1 program.

The Horizon should either add Chicago St instead of Robert Morris or add Chicago St, Robert Morris and St Francis (PA).

Isn't Chicago State in a perpetual state of almost closing completely, let alone staying up in D1?

Yes, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they were merged into another public college in Chicago, probably Governers St or Northeastern Illinois, but maybe UIC or Northern Illinois.

The solution here?

Pair Illinois-Chicago with Purdue Fort Wayne. Here's how it would work..

-UIC and Purdue Fort Wayne

-Green Bay and Milwaukee

-Oakland (MI) and Detroit Mercy

-IUPUI and Northern Kentucky

-Cleveland State and Wright State

-Youngstown State and Robert Morris

I really don't think it's too big of a problem, and you're solution certainly works, but it's just the groupings they have now work so well. NKU and Wright State are an hour apart, same with YSU and Cleveland State.

IUPUI & NKU are two hours apart (not really an issue) but Cleveland State and Wright State are 3+ hours apart.

It was even better when Valpo was paired with UIC (pre-IUPUI).

*I didn't read a few posts above where this was essentially laid out already. I also thought Robert Morris was in Eastern PA

Indiana University- Purdue University Indianapolis is quite a confusing name for a university.

Not as confusing as Grand Canyon University, which is located in Phoenix, almost three and a half hours from the Grand Canyon

Which is why most people usually call it Ooey-Pooey.

Why can't they just do what University of Missouri-Kansas City did and name their teams "Indianapolis" while still keeping the official university name?

Because there is already an Indianapolis (University of Indianapolis). They are in division II. Now if they go the route that Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne did (Now Purdue Fort Wayne) and become say Indiana University Indianapolis it could be a little better.

Oh. Thank you for letting me know, I had no idea.

Yeah, that does sound better.

Personally, I'm wondering how long it's going to take for the WAC to collapse. It's gone on for way too long.

That's even worse than Manhattan College being in the Bronx or Boston College being in Chestnut Hill.

It's not like they could have a university IN the Grand Canyon, though.  I suppose Flagstaff is a larger city that's closer to the GC than Phoenix is.
