MBurmy 1,138 Posted January 21 If ANY FCS conferences make the jump to FBS anytime soon, it's NOT going to be the WAC or A-Sun (My guesses were always the MVFC and Big Sky-possibly the CAA?)

Other than them and maybe SDSU/USD I don't think the members would survive in FBS.
Seadragon76 871 Posted January 21 More like NO on anyone jumping up. All the schools have to adhere to the attendance rules and have to find a way for each school to get to 85 scholarships. In this day and age where money is scarce, it's not going to happen.
heavybass 714 Posted January 23 If the ASUN's long term 'plan' worked and the other 5 teams somehow get into the FBS then Liberty would end football independence and join the ASUN... I listened to B-Mac and Herd's FCS Podcast that talked about this 'plan'.

Air Force has been worse in basketball and mediocre in football. Conference additions have nothing to do with team success. It's about money, tv markets (which is essentially, money) and quality of education... to an extent... as it pertains to the conference... getting money.

Winning the Mountain West or beating both Army and Navy?

OK, UNLV isn't a draw in their own market and Colorado Springs isn't that big. They won't grow the pie at all.
sportsfan7 427 Posted January 26 The only MWC schools that have a good TV market and are draws would be Boise St, Hawaii and maybe New Mexico or SDSU.
CrimsonBull9584 359 Posted January 26 When the ASUN FCS conference debuts this fall, which teams will we see? I'm still a little hazy on who is going to make up the fall lineup.

According to the leaked EKU FAQ, the ASUN lineup seems to be: University of Central Arkansas Eastern Kentucky University Jacksonville State University Kennesaw State University University of North Alabama Liberty will stay FBS and Stetson will remain in the Pioneer. According to the EKU post, they're planning on adding another member to get to six football schools. https://www.maroon-nation.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/asun_faq.png
heavybass 714 Posted January 27 Who could they get?
sportsfan7 427 Posted January 27 6 minutes ago, heavybass said: Who could they get? It's too late to get a D2 team or for an FCS program to start a team. My guess is that they play this fall as an unofficial conference with only 5 members and add at least one more for 2022.
Red Wolf 5,615 Posted January 27 19 minutes ago, heavybass said: Who could they get? Reckless speculation? Maybe grab some of the Louisiana remnants in the Southland since all of the good Texas schools left for the WAC. Though it always seems that Louisiana universities are on the verge of a financial collapse, so maybe that's why the good Texas schools and UCA jumped ship.
heavybass 714 Posted January 27 There was one thought I had when it came to the ASUN.... did Jacksonville University acted too soon? If they hadn't of stopped the football program, then we would have 6 teams ready to go.

As for that 6th team: I've heard that Chattanooga might be it.
heavybass 714 Posted January 27 This new conference will be called the United Atlantic Conference or UAC and that is where atm Central Arkansas, Kennesaw State and North Alabama are residing.
