Division 1 College Conference Realignment

Look, this is a good move for Utah, but let's not pretend being in the MWC was utter crap for them either.

I'm sorry if that's how you took my original comment about the MWC, that's not exactly what I mean.

Call me crazy but I don't see Utah doing too many 12-0 seasons playing a Pac-10 conference schedule. Not for a while anyway. Still, good for you Wasatch and good for your Utes.

Oh I totally agree. It'll be interesting to see how they rise to the call, but only time will tell. And thanks by the way, I know all my Utah friends are going fanatical about this too! :D

Maybe not, but at least the Pac added some competition and not another Wash. St. (sorry in advance Cougs fans).

Since Boise is leaving the wac, who is the best team left in the wac?

I would think that upon hearing the news that Boise is leaving for the MWC, that the University of Nevada, Reno was pretty darn happy to get them out. They're a very strong basketball school and have won the WAC several times, they've won the WAC in football fairly recently and if not for Boise St would have a few more WAC titles, and aren't really all that bad in baseball. At this point I'd put them at the top of that conference with Fresno State just a smidge behind (Although their recent baseball success could very easily put them in the top spot).

They have an argument for 2007. Not for 2004.

2004 Utah was much more impressive than 2007 2008. I don't think anyone could have stopped Urban's offense that year. Too bad they didn't get a shot at USC/Oklahoma/Auburn instead of Pitt in the Fiesta Bowl.

Just because you bitchmade the only BCS Bowl team that *counts years back* 2007 Hawaii could have put up a fight against does not mean you could have beaten another one of those unbeatens. USC would have murdered your defense, Oklahoma would probably do fairly well against you, and Utah's offense never had to confront anything approaching Auburn's defense, while also likely being overwhelmed by the Auburn offense.

Also-Auburn under Tuberville seemed to do better than anyone against Urban Meyer's Florida teams.

If the new 'Pac-12' stays as-is, it looks like Colorado and Utah will become instant geographical rivals, as the rest of the conference is pretty much paired off that way. That being said... Let the "U-TAH-SUCKS" chants begin!

(And couldn't we just merge this topic with the HUGE conference expansion thread? This discussion is kind of going on over there as well. Just sayin.)

This story blew up on some USF forums I visited yesterday. Problem is, there really has been no proof so far. Memphis is a good choice, probably the best "available" option, "available" in the sense that they'd probably accept. Central FL on the other hand I'm semi-questionable on. I know, I may sound biased as a USF fan, but I really think there are some better options to make a splash before inviting Central FL (Maryland, TCU, E. Carolina, Houston, Navy, Army - all are extreme stretches, but the worst they can say is NO)

Considering the basketball schools' insistence on preserving the Big East's "delicate balance" I'll believe this when I see it.

My initial response to adding Utah was, "Eh." I'm a Pac 10 fan and wanted to see the likes of Texas and Oklahoma on a yearly basis. I know distance and all, was an issue, but purely on the competition side, to see those two in football alone would give credence (media-wise) to the Pac 10. The fact of the matter is the the Pac 10, no matter how good it is, will always be looked down upon because it's west of the Mississippi and the media is centered around NYC. It's not whining, it's just stating a fact. Heck, if the SEC schools all went 1-11 and the Pac 10 schools went 11-1, the media would crown the SEC the toughest conference. I realize that's actually impossible, but you get my point.

I'm not bashing Utah, which is a quality school all around, but Utah's not as sexy as Texas or Oklahoma. If it was up to me, I'd still rather see BYU replace Colorado and keep that rivalry going in a conference. I'm a BYU fan, until someone tells me I have to be because I'm a member of the Church, and then when the do that, I root for BYU to lose. Then again, I root for BYU to lose, just to piss people off! I just am not sold on Colorado, or should I say Berkley in the Mountains? We've already got one liberally nut-case for a school in Berkley, why add another? If you got Colorado from the late 80's, that to me would've been a better fit, but today they are a middle of the road school in everything.

New Pac-12 division alignment?

PAC-12 NORTH

California

Oregon

Oregon State

Stanford

Washington

Washington State

PAC-12 SOUTH

Arizona

Arizona State

Colorado

UCLA

USC

Utah

However, I could see Colorado/Utah being swapped for Cal/Stanford to keep the California rivalries intact.

Wow, will Colorado ever see daylight again?

USC dropped 55 points on an elite Oklahoma team. And USC's strength was its defense. You might have been competitive against Oklahoma. Auburn wouldn't become a blowout, but it still be a solid Auburn victory and, again, Tommy Tuberville never lost to Urban Meyer in the SEC. There's no way in hell you or any team beats that USC team however.
