rentz
Yeah, keep working at it. A few lines will rarely resemble someone. Play around with the shapes and get a feel for where the shadows are and you'll eventually find shapes that resemble MJ. It's really trial and error, at least for me. CDixonDesign
Here's my finished product, I'm more proud than I thought I would be! It turned out quite well, but with practice, it'll be much better and easier:
CDixonDesign
Your center line Sam, needs to be moved over a bit, like Davidson was mentioning before, that will visually line up the face into perspective. It should pass from the forehead, down the center of the nose, through the center of the mouth, and center up at the bottom of the chin....trust me, getting the basic figure will help you in ever step afterwards... chickenfish13
Heres what I've done. Matt Hackett of the Plymouth Whalers. I can't say Im totally amazed at how it came out, but I am amazed at how easy, effective, and fun it is to make something like this from a few simple lines. Thanks a lot Davidson, can't wait for the next one. dribbble
CDixonDesign
Don't stop at one Chickenfish! I'm working on Round 2 of this first tutorial, the more practice, the better you'll become!
chickenfish13
I'm thinking about another one, I just dont have another player I really want to use. Maybe I'll just do a random player By the way, CDixon, yours looks really nice, I like the angle. dribbble
CDixonDesign
You really dont have to use a player, I simply typed in "Person" in my google search for this one: Feedback welcome! Glad to see plenty of you guys taking part in this...and Jay, I figured you would do a Braves player
CDixonDesign
The most difficult part of this for me, has been portaying the eyes in a way that captures the entire shadowing of the eye, without losing the natural look to the iris, and eyelids...I also feel as if my images are too "realistic", and focusing too much on the smaller details rather than a cartoon profile style that Davidson has, and does well, hopefully I can give a few shots at more practice, and get a style down pat... Both images you have chosen, the guys have balding/shaved heads. This makes it difficult to portray someone in black and white. They appear to have a full head of dark hair, when they really don't. I think this may be why you're focusing on the face.
PhilliesPhan1325
Here's where I am. I'm not too confident in making the shadowing so far but I have some basic lines. "The 0-2 pitch... It would also look better if you hand-drew the lines, instead of using a stroke. Remember, we are going for simplicity.
MDC
Michael had a rough time in Inkscape, so I threw it away. hes got kinda a generic face, and it just started resembling a regular dude. kinda looked like Vince Carter though.Started over, with mister Joakim Noah. ---Owner of the NHA's Philadelphia Quakers, the UBA's Chicago Skyliners, and the CFA's Portland Beavers (2010 CFA2 Champions)---
