The Cardinals unveiled their new black alternate jerseys today.

Can't say I'm thrilled with the black. And the article that the link directs you to says the team couldn't change their helmet color since it's not a throwback. I think a red helmet may have made this tolerable. But this with a black pants stripe and black socks. It's going to look very college.

....and now we are one step closer to the day when every team in every sport wears black. =(

We've been discussing them here:

I hate the megathread - IMO each unveiling (there will be more than just this and the Bears, right?) should have it's own thread. Actually, I thought this was the agreement a while ago. It sucks looking back through a huge thread to find a pics or comments on one team's new jersey.

They really look a lot like the Falcons whether they're in red or black. They'd have been better off doing something simple with the Sedona Red that the Diamondbacks and the TIF District use, or finally using the classic cardinal uniform.

They aren't too bad, I just wish that the numbers would be red outlined in white, to differentiate itself from the Falcons a little. Also, I have always wanted to see Arizona put the state flag back on the sleeves, and was hoping to see it try that with this alt, but that didn't happen. Overall an okay jersey, i'd say a solid "C".

I don't think these look anything like the Falcons jerseys (Ok, maybe a little), but the Falcons don't even wear the black jerseys anymore. Both teams wear red and black, what did you want them to do? Wear a yellow alt? Oh yeah, that would've gone over well. Personally I think they look kind of like the Louisville Cardinals, which isn't a bad thing at all.

All this talk about the Falcons' black jerseys.... And damn, what a shame. Those combined with their black helmets looked so slick!

How about throwbacks or no alt at all.

They're not bad, but did the Cardinals REALLY need a black alternate? The Lion didn't need one, neither do the Cards.

Ever notice that the teams who add a black alternate jersey haven't won anything in years? Take a look:

Arizona (last title 1947)

Detroit (last title 1957)

Philadelphia (last title 1960)

Atlanta (no titles)

Jacksonville (no titles)

In fact, MOST of the teams who have added alternate jerseys did so YEARS after their last title or have NEVER won a title:

Denver (exception)

New England (exception)

NY Giants (exception)

Miami (last title 1973)

Cincinnati (no titles)

Cleveland (last title 1964)

Houston (no titles)

Tennessee (no NFL titles)

San Diego (no NFL itles)

Chicago (last title 1985)

Carolina (no titles)

Seattle (no titles)
