Still MIGHTY
That and Uruguay hosted the first World Cup assuring their qualification.Anyways a European team will win the World Cup, First time that will happen off of European soil.It will also be the first time a team from the northern hemisphere will win in the southern hemisphere. | ANA | LAA | LAR | LAL | ASU | CSULB | USMNT | USWNT | LAFC | OCSC | MAN UTD |
-kj
Also they were the host nation, and pretty close to the host nation the 2nd time.Of course, they beat the host nation in that final. Camden Crazy
Also they were the host nation, and pretty close to the host nation the 2nd time.Of course, they beat the host nation in that final.Which happened to be Brazil. Also, the 1950 World Cup final was a 4-team round robin instead of just one game, so they had to play well for 3 games, not just one.Trying to discredit Uruguay FTL. Saintsfan
Also they were the host nation, and pretty close to the host nation the 2nd time.Of course, they beat the host nation in that final.Actually there was no final in the 1950 competition. The top 4 teams in the group stages played in a final group. It's true that the last game was the dcider between Brazil and Uruguay however, but a draw in that match would have given Brazil the Trophy. I wasn't trying to undermine Uruguay's achievements by praising the Dutch achievement. I am not sure that you can easily compare across generations, both achievements are worthy. 2011/12 WFL Champions
-kj
Huh. The things you learn.I was just watching a thing on the World Cup Final games the other day, and they treated that game as if it were a final, with no mention of it being a round robin. There was a qualification process, though it appears to have been a bit odd. Buy some t-shirts and stuff at KJ Shop! There was a qualification process, though it appears to have been a bit odd.In all fairness, it was effectively the final!Yeah, I remember watching a doc on youtube about this...how Brazil basically figured that the game was in the bag, that it was inevitable that they were going to win their World Cup and finally bring the football-crazed country a championship...then the unthinkable happened: Uruguay beat them. I remember some guy talking about how his father thought that Brazil was NEVER going to win a World Cup after that disastrous loss...lmao.But yeah, the main thing I remember from that game is that Brazil never wears all-white because of that game. They think all-white = bad luck charm.

Seadragon76
It's over! Spain has won 1-0 (Coincidence anyone?) against Germany and now it will be The Oranje and La Furia Roja meeting Sunday for all the marbles.

epper
Hats off to Spain. Much better team today in every area.Very disappointed, but proud of the team. It was a much better run than most experts predicted heading in. You can damn well count on Die Mannschaft being a force in Brazil '14 with all the young stars getting some experience. FiddySicks
Awesome, this is the final I was hoping for. The team who has been a disappointment in the recent past with something to prove vs the world super power who has somehow never won it. This has really been an entertaining world cup in terms of upsets and story lines. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.)
