Coast2CoastAM2006
Why can't the NHL get a player that the media would go to this extreme for coverage of a potential signing? Oh God this sort of thing could happen if Stamkos hits the open market, couldn't it?If stamkos hit the FA market, the story would be somewhere at the back of the Star-Telegram sports page right before the classified section. Spoilers!
Cujo
If LeBron rejoins the Cavs, would he still wear number 6? And if, what number would the Cavs retire later? It would be #6. LeBron is a believer of retiring Jordan's #23 league-wide, ala Wayne Gretzky and Jackie Robinson.

Yeah, but, Toronto and everything. It wouldn't have ESPN applying infrared technology on Stamkos' residence, but in this era, that is the closest we might get to some hockey free agent blowup. And although the neutral fan in me honestly wouldn't mind seeing this, well, the Lightning fan in me is praying to never see this happen.
truepg
After following this LeBron decision process for several days now, and with all the hovering from side to side without an end, I couldn't care less anymore. So, Gilbert's letter is an issue NOW, after the only thing that's left to join the Cavs is to put the ink on the paper?? After all that recruiting that he has gone through with them from the beginning? What was he thinking?? Gilbert's letter was always there. I'm done following this nonsense. The Cavs are well off regardless of whether he signs with them or not.If Gilbert's letter will be the deciding factor between him signing with the Cavs or not, it appears he was never really considering going back, and it will just serve as an excuse why he didn't. DG_ThenNowForever
Woah. Nice work SI on the exclusive. That's a lot of people who knew the story before it launched -- writer, editor, graphics, web team, etc. Good for them to keep it under wraps until the whole piece was packaged and complete. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags

CS85
That write up is pretty moving. Compared to the grandiose middle finger with The Decision and all that crap, he's not even in the country. He put forth a touching essay that is simple, straightforward, and humble. It's the right way to do the right thing. It's a big moment in sports history.
