What is that grimace mates with Rorschach thing in the first mountain lions pic?

That's the Chick Fil A Cow

One of those cows was at Gameday when they came to Eugene last year, I gave him a high five lol..although they had a giant sign and got in the way, it was when they would carry the mascot head down the isles

I got a sneak peek at the Nighthawks jerseys in an email:

Those aren't half bad, wish they did the secondary logo on the jersey instead of the primary. Either way, its better than the crud that the UFL had for jerseys.

The UFL is unveiling all the uniforms on July 28th.

I'm hoping the cheesiness of this line from the press release doesn't in anyway foreshadow the quality of the league's uniforms:

The uniform unveiling will also include a guest appearance by BETTY BOOP, the world-famous cartoon character with more curves than a backward pass, who is one of the most popular and successful licensed characters in entertainment history.

It was interesting.

The tryouts were at Natomas High.

Yet, mini-camp was at Grant.

I think training camp should be at Sierra College.

(used to be the summer home of the 49ers)

I can definitely see why they don't though. The reason the Niners left Sierra College is because of how miserably hot it gets during the summer months. I played rugby at Sierra and towards the end of the season our coach would have us practice till it was nearly completely dark in order to avoid practicing in the heat of the day, and wouldn't field a summer team at all. That and Sierra is really particular about how much activity takes place in Ostrom Stadium ever since they installed the new field turf.

I think folks who (somewhat rightfully) mocked the UFL 2009 uniforms will have to admit that they learned their lessons. Everything we have seen so far shows that the UFL is trying to balance classic looks with some innovation. I expect these uniforms to look classy and evoke a sense that this league is serious about its football. I really don't expect to see anything that makes folks here pull out the tired lines about "looks like arenaball" or "that's so XFL".

I think they are going to get it right this time, though I have to admit those chest swoops on the 2009 uniforms grew on me, too bad the color schemes were so bad.

Except the haven't upgraded the talent so those particular canards will be right on target.

To be fair, the UFL has Daunte Culpepper and Dominic Rhodes under contract, so there's some NFL (and Super Bowl) experience represented on the UFL field.

The UFL Commissioner has stated that his objective is to get every UFL team roster to be as good or better than the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Personally, I'd aim for an easier target first, like making every team's turnstile numbers as good as or better than the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Maybe the Buffalo Bills?

But seriously I am really hoping this league can be successful, of course not as a replacement to the NFL, but more as a compliment. The more football the better!

Why the Jags?

Not sure what you are expecting. I think the talent level and quality of play will be solid. This is not an attempt to challenge the NFL like the USFL or WFL were, so of course the talent will not try to equal the NFL. This is basically AAA level football, so the talent level will be equivalent to the guys sitting on the benches of NFL teams.

I expect the quality of play to be very good. These teams cannot compete with NFL teams, but if the talent is well distributed among the teams you can get very good football, certainly better than what we have seen from some fly-by-knight attempts at spring football (RFL, SFL). You just have to recognize that it is not the NFL, and that is OK. The NFL is never going to have a team in Omaha or Hartford. Take it for what it is.

Experience is less important than talent and skill. 2010 Daunte isn't exactly early 2000s Daunte by any stretch of the imagination.

Plus he doesn't exactly have Carter and Moss to throw to.
