GeauxColonels
I've been away from the forum for a while but I recently jumped back into looking at it again. Back when I was in middle school, I would often create football teams and leagues and assign them to a team on the Joe Montana Sega video game. I would play as one team and simulate the league, keeping track of the records and champions for each "season". Well, after looking at several of the recent concepts on here, I've decided to create my own league again. This time, with a twist.North American Continental Football AssociationSure, the name is long but not much longer than the All-American Football Conference from the 40s, which is where I got my inspiration. Thinking of the NFL/AFL merger, I decided to create a league in 1969 with teams in markets that did not already have an NFL, AFL or CFL team in 1969 (to the best of my knowledge). The NACFA will be INITIALLY comprised of 16 teams: 12 in the US and 4 in Canada. My original plan was to base the team colors on the flag (at that time) of the city in which it is located. For the most part, I think I've been able to do that. However, I couldn't find some historical info for some cities. Also, changes to color schemes may happen in the future before completion of the league since so many city flags use blue in them. What I need from you all are basically "votes" as to which name you feel is most appropriate to the team given the city in which it will play. I've come up with 3 proposals for each team, please pick one for each city. If you think you have a better name idea, throw it out there. But, again, just one vote/suggestion per city PLEASE. Also, I'm trying to keep the names somewhat similar to what you would have seen in the late 60s, early 70s.Continental DivisionCharlotte: Hornets, Colonials, ExplorersHalifax: Schooners, Kingfishers, AdmiralsHartford: Generals, Revolutionaries, AmericansIndianapolis: Motors, Stars, CrossroadsLondon: Regiments, Battalions, MonarchsMississauga: Warriors, Lakers, BravesNewark/New Jersey: Royals, Bobcats, ShorebirdsOttawa: Capitals, Governors, MountiesAmerican DivisionBirmingham: Railers, Locomotives, MinersLas Vegas: Gamblers, Dealers, MobstersLouisville: Racers, Mustangs, TwistersMemphis: Blues, Rebels, SteamersPhoenix: Coyotes, Hawks, NativesPortland: Lumberjacks, Pioneers, WolvesSan Antonio: Missions, Steers, AlamosSeattle: Pilots, Emeralds, CascadesI'll keep the "voting" open until 4pm CDT on Friday, June 4. WideRight
So what is the concept here? Is this a rival league, a minor league? You have an odd blend of current NFL cities, some of the usual rival league cities (B'ham, Memphis, etc.) a few non-CFL Canadian cities. Not sure what your vision is here. GeauxColonels
So what is the concept here? Is this a rival league, a minor league? You have an odd blend of current NFL cities, some of the usual rival league cities (B'ham, Memphis, etc.) a few non-CFL Canadian cities. Not sure what your vision is here. The vision is basically this:The NFL/AFL Merger left the country with one league yet again. Basically, this is a new league set at that point in time that is starting up. The reason there are a few NFL cities in there is because, at the time of the merger, there were no NFL teams in those cities. So, the NACFA beat the NFL in to Seattle and Indianapolis. Also, they decided to try and bring in a few Canadian cities as well. So, at the start, it's somewhat of a rival league but one that doesn't directly compete with the NFL in any markets...yet.This is the initial stage of creating the teams and league identity back in the late 60s/early 70s. After those identities are established, I would love to move the league forward in time and reflect changes based on the NFL's real moves like expanding to Seattle and Tennessee. Also, I hope to advance some of the team identities as well as "time" moves on. So I plan for this to be somewhat of a perpetual project. This is my first attempt at something like this...so it could take me a while. But I'm very excited to do this.Hope it kind of clears that up. GeauxColonels
I like this I am looking forward to the concepts. Are you going to use old helmet & uniform styles? That's definitely the plan. That's why I tried to stay away from the "crazy" nicknames that came about in the 80s and 90s. Eventually, if all goes as planned, I would like to evolve the leage over several decades and bring them into the present.
