Las Vegas Locomotives Throwbacks

Hey everyone, here is an idea I had for a Locomotives throwback. I wanted to make a blue uniform that they could wear to commemorate their inaugural year championship, without having to wear those hideous ones from last year. So I tried to make a neo-throwback that is kind of the polar opposite of their new current hip type logo, and emphasize the locomotives, rather than the "locos." I'm still very very new to this so constructive criticism is more than welcome. I am just learning to make vectors and learning the pen tool, but I tried to do the best that I could. Also, I would really like to put this on an action template but don't know where to find one, and currently lack the skill to make one. >_< Anyways, let me know what you guys think! Thank you!!

you mean a fauxback. theres no way a 1 year team can have a throwback. no idea what they would be throwing back to.

They could throw back to last year's uniform, since all the teams have new colors this season.

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry

Yeah I gotta agree with Ben here the first thing I thought of when I saw it was bus. I know you were probably going for a modern train look, but I really think you need to go old school steam train with this one, for two reasons, first most people dont call modern trains locomotive, they just refer to them as "trains" and secondly if it's a throwback (or as someone else pointed out more accurately a "fauxback") I think you need to make the train look like an old one to get across the throwback nature of the idea.

I like the layout, the perspective and the initials in the wheels, I think all you need to do is change the silhouette for an older looking train and you're set. I dont even think you'd need to alter it much, I can almost imagine the windshield part being modified to be the smoke stack, what's currently the roof line could become a smoke plume so you'll still have a pretty similar layout on the helmet but it will just be more recognisable as a steam locomotive.

Right, that's what I was thinking. And I thought it would be unique to make a fauxback, because their current uniforms don't really have much to do with a locomotive. And they could wear these to represent their first year, where they wore blue, and have a unique traditional looking jersey.

I definitely see what you guys mean about it looking more similar to a bus. One idea I had was to make it just a steam train car with a white number in the middle, a la golden states old uniforms, but I wasn't sure if it would be too gimicky. I'll try to draw up both later and see what you guys think looks better. Thanks everyone for the comments!

Ok here is a revised version of the helmet! I got the idea from the palace station sign, which is one of the more historic casinos in vegas still left. Let me know what you guys think..

I tried to make the bottom part of the train seem like an old school version of their third logo, which is this:

Anyways let me know what you guys think. C+C very much appreciated!

Honestly, if you're doing a fauxback like this, might be better to use an LV monogram on the helmet, because there really weren't very many detailed helmet logos until TV started to come of age in the 60s, before that, I know the Eagles, Rams and Colts had logos, and they were all extremely simple and static, but not many others had anything on there. I guess it depends what era you're fauxing back to.

your concepts needs some work

You've been entered in both the 'Best Critique of the Year' and 'Best Gramatically (sic) Incorrect One-Liner of the Year' contests.

I think you're going in a great direction, I like the idea and the inclusion of the player numbers in the logo...but it still doesn't really say "train" to me. It's missing something.

I agree. I really like the idea of this logo. You're definitely on the right track with this one. (No pun intended)
