Another thing, in the article, the agent and the father both agree he is not gay. I don't think he is, but if he is, he is, and if he's not, then he's not.

I'm not sure the acquaintance knows anything. That's where the whole paranoia/schizophrenia thing comes into play. A lot of this could be in Danton's head and if so, he'll certainly get the medical attention he needs and perhaps be acquitted on grounds of mental illness.

Interesting to note that Frost's response to Danton's father's comments was "he's the village idiot" (referring to the dad).

This story has moved from bizarre to creepy and is now headed toward just plain sad.

ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Blues forward Mike Danton is in dire need of psychological counseling as he remains jailed on an alleged murder-for-hire plot, the player's agent said Monday.

"Mike is scared," agent Dave Frost said in a telephone interview. "He's still in a state where he doesn't actually understand what's happened. He's in desperate, desperate need of counseling, immediately. We're doing what we can to keep his mind-set as strong as we possibly can."

Danton was arrested Friday, a day after the San Jose Sharks beat the Blues 3-1 to eliminate St. Louis from the Stanley Cup playoffs. He remains jailed in California pending extradition to the St. Louis area. A spokeswoman in the U.S. Attorney's office in East St. Louis, Ill., said a time and date for Danton's initial court appearance has not been set.

Meanwhile, an initial appearance was scheduled Monday for Katie Wolfmeyer, the 19-year-old suburban St. Louis woman accused of helping to set up the hit.

Federal authorities on Friday charged Danton and Wolfmeyer with conspiracy and using a telephone across state lines to set up a murder.

A criminal complaint filed by the FBI alleged that Danton tried to hire a hit man for $10,000 to murder an acquaintance at the apartment the men shared. The complaint alleged the men argued Tuesday over Danton's "promiscuity and use of alcohol." Danton feared the acquaintance would talk to Blues management and ruin Danton's career, the complaint says.

A time and date for Danton's initial court appearance has not been set. Meanwhile, an initial appearance was scheduled Monday for Katie Wolfmeyer, the 19-year-old suburban St. Louis woman accused of helping to set up the hit.

Wolfmeyer's uncle said the family was unaware of a relationship between Wolfmeyer and Danton.

"She's an all-American type of girl," John Wolfmeyer said. "Everyone's in her corner. Nobody is sleeping or eating. This is just tearing the family apart."

St. Louis acquired Danton in June from the New Jersey Devils, where he had been twice suspended for disciplinary reasons. He sat out all of the 2001-02 season and played in just 17 games in 2002-03.

This season, Danton had seven goals, 12 points and 141 penalty minutes -- tied for most on the team.

My local sports station interviewed a writer for a St. Louis paper who stated that everyone involved agrees that Danton is NOT gay and blamed the FBI for a very, very poor choice of words in their press release, steering everyone towards the conclusion that he was gay.

Poor messed up kid, as if he doesn't have enough to deal with he's falsely outed.

Well if Danton is not gay then he should sue the papers that said he was for slander.

I just dont get this case at all now if he is not this guy has some serious issues and is a loose cannon the Devils were right in dumping him.

That's because he's apparently struggling with some sort of mental illness. The NHL (or any sports organization) is probably the worst environment for a kid like this to be in. He needs to get some serious help and ironically, getting busted is probably the best way to guarantee he'll get it because it will be court-supervised.
