Was there some kind of Big Tenleven vs. MAC Challenge that I didn't know about? Looks like there were 8 such matchups today (Northwestern-Central Michigan, Michigan-Bowling Green, Iowa-Ball State, Purdue-Toledo, Ohio State-Eastern Michigan, Penn State-Temple, Indiana-Akron and Minnesota-Northern Illinois), and of course all of the games were hosted by the Big Tenleven squad. At least the MAC made a bunch of money today (and even got one win).

Sun Belt teams are too far away, so the Big Ten prefers MACrificial lambs instead.

So yesterday Boise State plays a tough one against Oregon State, but still pulls out the win. Nevada stepped up and crushed BYU and are now 4-0 and in the top 25 for the first time since 1948. Really, if anyone is gonna kill Boise State's chances at playing in the National Championship game, it won't be indirectly caused by Bama or Ohio State winning out (I think both will drop a game). It'll be because Nevada beats them.

Which I'm pulling for. And when is anyone going to start paying attention to that Wolfpack up there?

Very quietly, I've become a fan of that squad over the past three or four years. I still don't know how this happened, but somehow or other, while I was still living in Pittsburgh, I ended up getting a lot of their games, and saw a different version of an option offense I hadn't really paid attention to before...their Pistol offense, which to me may as well be rushing's answer to what the run-and-shoot is to passing. I don't know how long Nevada's been running that offense, but I do know over the course of the past two or three years, I've seen pieces of Nevada's pistol being ran by teams throughout the country, almost the way the wildcat caught fire in the NFL once the Dolphins broke it out. (UCLA sure pulled a good impression of Nevada yesterday against Texas.)

Either way, I've been keeping an eye on them since then. And the QB they have now...can actually sling it. Their defense also seems to have tightened up this season. How they're still under the radar on a national scale actually befuddles me some--guess it's the conference. Who knows...maybe their game against Boise State will be their showcase game to the nation.

Dfwabel, the ASU game started at 7:30 pm local time and it was 102 degrees on the field. It needed to start late, and it was just an unusually long game.

I spent a long post on this last week, but dammit if the Sun Devils showed up again. If they don't fumble on the two after recovering Oregon's fumble on the 2nd half kickoff, momentum switches and that game is fought until the bitter end. I would've seen them trading TDs with the Ducks for the rest of the half.

That's two straight weeks of hanging with top 10 teams and two games that they could have had if one or two things go in the Devils' favor. These Sun Devils are better than advertised.

The bottom and middle of the Pac-10 should watch their backs, and those on top should take notice. If the Devils can just cut out the dumb mistakes (and the constant barrage of swing passes, seriously Erickson, stop it), this could most definitely be a bowl team. A great defense and an efficient offense. This could be an extremely decent season.

And this team only has one starting senior. Arizona State will be a good team next season, and maybe even a player in the Pac-12 race in 2011. These Devils will be a force next year.

It's two straight losses, but nowhere to go but up and miles and miles of optimism. BRING ON THE BEAVERS! GO DEVILS!

(Also, I have 1/4 of my voice today. Thanks to getting into my student section line early (thank god for big pockets :P ) and that game. Amazing experience. Most fun I've had at any sporting event since the 2007 Anaheim Ducks Cup run. So awesome. I love college football more than ever now. It's so awesome actually having a stake in it)

Seeing the Scum Devils do well will only make me happier when we demolish them in Tucson.

I'm not impressed by the Mildcats either, if it really takes a GW TD to win the game I wouldn't be impressed either. At least with 2 losses this year, the Sun Devils have played each team to the point of almost winning. Same team who was supposed to finish number 8 or 9 in the Pac-10 isn't playing so. The word demolish won't happen either, it will be one of those games where it will come down to a touchdown or field goal.

Over/Under week 7 Denard Robinson blows out an ankle, cause he doesn't tie his shoes?

Still taking bets on this one...

Today was just a precursor

Because his shoelaces had a lot to do with why he got hurt, right? Had they been playing a decent team, he would have continued to play, but there was no reason for it. He is fine.

Also, yeah, it isn't like he just wears his cleats completely loose. He has done it since he was a kid, apparently with no problems.

This whole thing with his shoelaces is way overblown, anyways. He has velcro added to make up for the untied laces. The kid has been amazing on the field, and all people care to discuss is his damn Shoelaces.

Hey as long as people focus on that and not the piss poor defense, I'm fine ignoring all of that talk. Now if we could just get opposing offenses to ignore the holes in the defense and focus on his shoelaces too :P

Appalachian State has put together a committee to look at the feasibility of moving up to the FBS subdivision. Part of me is singing oh happy day, and another part of me doesn't like it. It's nice competing for national championships, but the chance at being "the next" Boise State is pretty cool. Of course, they could be the next Marshall. <_<

What a game down in Stillwater.

Good game indeed, but it was much closer than it should have been.

Classic tale-of-two-halves game. Jarrod Johnson, IMO, single-handedly lost that game for the Aggies. 4 INT's and a lost fumble. Granted, he did a good job trying to fix the mistakes. Heck, they still nearly won, and the made some huge conversions on 3rd and 4th downs.

However, every turnover--be it a fumble for a touchdown or an INT in the final minute--cut like a claymore for A&M. It finally cost them a game (nearly lost to Florida f-ing International. Really?!?).

Should this turnover bug continue, Mike Sherman needs to seriously look at starting the in-game development of their freshman QB's. Should this turnover bug continue, A&M can't possibly win another game this year.

(**)(**)(*.5)(*)(*) I give Johnson only that many stars this time.

The Big East is really scraping the bottom of the barrel isn't it?

What a game down in Stillwater.

I kept waiting for Leon Lett to show up at the last minute and lose the game.

After taking care of business and not losing to a directional school for the first time (and I was just a little scared going into the NIU game), we have our biggest game of the season. Home against Ohio State. The crowd is going to be great for this one, I just hope the score is respectable. And there's always that chance, as small as it may be, for the upset.

It's early but the Illini are holding their own right now.
