Colts get down to the 25 with under 40 seconds left looking to complete a 4th quarter comeback from down 31-14, and almost had it.

Peyton got pressured from the right side and instead of hitting the short out route to the right, he throws it just to the left and high. Right to the Patriot defender.

ARGH!

Now the Colts and Jags are tied in the AFC South. Eff.

And since we're discussing Florida pigskin...my Buccaneers just keep on winning. Now granted, this was the 49ers, who either decided before the game to lay down or are purposely tanking to get Singletary fired...but historically, the Buccaneers have had issues traveling out west. But so far they're 2-0 on the road out there. And not only that, they shut the Niners out. Josh Freeman continues to show his mettle out there, and I continue to like LeGarrette Blount's play (who by the way, it should be noted, was thisclose to joining the Niners after the draft). And, again...this is all being done by mostly freshmen and sophomores on offense. And now they sit at 7-3 with a trip to Baltimore on the horizon. This will be a good test for these young Bucs. To be fair, I thoroughly expect them to get ran roughshod on out there in Baltimore, but I'll still be pulling for them regardless.

Today, SF fans went into a game in which they were 3-6 and playing a6-3 team and thought it was "a winnable game". So crazy for them, since they are on QB #3 and their wins are against DEN, OAK ("who showed who they really were" today) and rebuilding STL.

To their credit, four of their last six games are in the NFC West, yet they still have four road games left too. Ouch. Singletary and this staff is a hot garbage. Singletary's post game presser was less like his ones from a year ago, and more like Lovie Smith or a "black Wade Phillips" in talking about, "We have to look at the tape..."

That OL is young, but still has all 1st and 2nd round picks, so coaching might be just as bad as scouting. Jed York was given a bad situation from his parents and now they want a stadium? They need a big name, like local pop as coach/GM to get this back and there is one name...Mike Holmgren.

Here is the SF huddle today:

Has Peyton Manning all of a sudden become "unclutch" in big games? First he throws that crippling INT in last year's Super Bowl vs. the Saints, and now that duck he threw today when he absolutely had the Patriots on the ropes late. Usually Peyton is money in these situations. It's inexplicable.

Not when he's basically reduced to standing on the corner of Illinois @ South Street basically recruiting guys off the street to suit up at receiver. (At least in the case of this season.)

At some point, all these injuries were bound to catch up to the Colts. Also, at some point the defense needs to rediscover the mojo it once had and stop relying on Peyton to bail them out every time.

Add in the INT against the Eagles two weeks ago.

I don't know. You're right, he's usually money in these situations. Look at last year's Colts/Pats game. Belichek went on 4th down with under 2 minutes left because he knew whether Peyton got the ball via turnover on downs or punt, he was going to go down and score. Which he did and the Colts won.

It's becoming a bad trend. Especially when almost every game is going to be tight when this team is winning against the better teams.

All very true.

This is something I've learned from watching the Pats: No QB or team can be perfect in clutch situations or in general. I seriously doubt that something has happened to Peyton in the last 9-12 months that has made him less "clutch." His arm got hit on that last INT and the 2nd one he attributed to a defensive scheme. There was a time when Brady and Belichick were invincible in the playoffs, 10-0 or something like that, and I thought it could continue forever. Well, they haven't won a Super Bowl since, not even in the "perfect" season. Brady has made mistakes in crunch time, but you just have to trust that usually he won't. I still have faith in him when the game is on the line and I think that the Pats are on a beeline for the Super Bowl this year. No one can always be money in the clutch; for the most part, it's very likely a toss-up anyway, as it seems to be in baseball. But don't let a couple of mistakes in a row make you think that he is done or anything. I think every Patriots fan was thinking the miracle at that point would be holding them to a Field Goal. No, Peyton's not perfect, but he's still deadly good, especially in the 4th quarter.

Manning face!

Which Manning looked more burtal in the final moments today?

A) Peyton's jump-ball INT while the Colts were in field goal range.

or

B) Eli's sliding fumble during the Giants' were on a game-tying driving.

Now the Colts and Jags are tied in the AFC South. Eff.

With a date set up in Indy for a rematch between the two in several weeks. Debating whether or not I should mozy my way up into the Oil Drum Brick House to watch that one in person--Jags garb and all. (So far the Jaguars are 1-0 when I attend their road games. )

Speaking of...those lucky bastards got another late win. It's become pretty obvious that some people really must want Jack Del Rio to stick around, because this team is really playing harder than I'm used to seeing--although with the same type of mental issues mixed in. Regardless, this is the kind of sustained effort and focus I haven't seen since the late '90s. Now having said that, this IS the Jaguars here, the league's most woefully inconsistent team. BUT, they did manage to get over their turnover issues (that which has long been an issue for them for whatever reason), and Maurice "Pinball" Jones-Drew did what he does and sewed that thing up for the Jags late. (Off-hand stat: Cleveland's 0-for-Florida this season.)

And since we're discussing Florida pigskin...my Buccaneers just keep on winning. I went to the Bucs Niners game today, and I just have to say how wonderful it feels to FINALLY see them win in person. 0 for their last 8 vs the Niners in San Fran is over!!! FIRE THEM CANNONS!!! I don't expect them to make the Playoffs this year, but they're gonna be SCARY in a year or two.

As for the Niners... Where do I even start? The whole franchise is just abysmal. I don't know what's worse, the Niners players, coaches, stadium, or fans. They should be absolutely ashamed of everyone. First off the play calling today was awful. Mike Singletary may be a good motivational speaker, but he's a terrible coach. The Niners ran it up the middle on 3rd down so much it was ridiculous. The players are as well clueless, TONS of costly mistakes and penalties. And I understand the frustration on the part of fans, but I saw more fans get the boot for fighting other fans OF THEIR OWN TEAM than I've seen at any other sporting event. Talk about an extreme lack of class. And the worst part, was the setting. Candlestick is an absolute dump. It's falling apart, the parking lots are flooded and chaotic, and it's just about impossible to get in and out of. After the game to get from the parking lot across the bay bridge, which can't be more than 5 miles, it took me THREE HOURS. I always knew that there was a reason why, despite being from the Bay Area and being a huge Bay Area sports fan, that I simply have zero interest in the Niners, today just made it clear to me exactly why.

This has been a flat out awful NFL season, and the Niners are the poster children for it.

Im embarrassed right now. 3 times on 4th and 3 and we can't convert. 3 :cursing: yards to get! With all due respect the Bucs defense isn't that good, yet we can't get one point(The Panthers with Clausen and a 3rd or 4th string RB got 16). Its frustrating, they won't be able to win one of the easiest divisions in the history of the league. I kinda want to trade Willis and Gore to other teams, cause they deserve to be on a winner. Good game Bucs fans, you're team simply showed up and my team didn't.

I understand McAfee has volunteered to supervise an expanded recruiting effort in Broad Ripple.
