Brown pants are gone!

The Chargers absolutely blew their redesign. No matter what the Browns do it's not as bad as the cluttered Navy,Powder Blue mess they have going on now. Your complaining about matching pant and helmet stripes what about the Chargers matching the bolt on the helmet and pants. What exactly do you call that thing on the side of the pants a tribal bolt looks like something tatto'ed on a San Diego strippers ass.

A couple observations:

Cujo:

All football pants were plain brown for decades before white and colored pants became the norm. How are plain brown pants 'non-traditional?'

Lights Out:

The only thing that could make the Browns' uniform even more boring is matching all the stripes for consistency's sake. Putting matching stripes on the helmet, jersey, pants and socks is not good design. In fact, it's not really 'design' at all if you ask me. It's more like the 'phone-it-in, easiest-way-out, I-don't-have-time-to-think-about-this' approach.

I like all of the Browns' uniforms, white pants, orange pants, even brown pants, and I think putting stripes on the brown pants would make it look ten times worse. The Browns look great as long as they wear striped socks. It's a very recognizable look that they own, and being one of the greatest golden era franchises, I'm glad they've built on the equity of that look by keeping it mostly unchanged for 60+ years.

AndrewG70:

That's a very astute suggestion. I don't think I've ever heard a joke involving the Browns and feces. Quite original.

That doesn't make a lot of sense.

You have an orange-brown-white home set, and an orange-white-orange road set. You lost one color (brown), but replaced it with more of another color (orange) which in turn replaced an article of the uniform (the pants) that didn't necessarily need to be replaced. If you're not going to have them also wear the orange pants at home, then the only real choices for road pants would be white or brown (which restores the color balance lost with the jersey switch.)

To me the browns orange pants were fantastic, I wish they would bring those back. Maybe I should put this in the unpopular opinions thread...That white/orange uni combo was tremendous.

cheo25 wow! I did'nt even notice that photoshop. I honestly thought that Tony Gonzalez jumped in the hot tub time machine went back in time to his old team and decided to throw the red pants.I'm such a dummy.

YOU SIMP!

That was from Buc's Monochrome Madness thread, so yeah, any you see like that are probably Photoshopped.

Well the Bears home uniform looks good, as does the Jets road, but I wouldn't suggest that a team adopt those looks for their uniform package.

That is an exaggeration of course, but while both of those Browns looks do look OK, they don't work as a package for the reasons I stated. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world though.

Both teams have history, and a tradition of mostly unchanged uniforms.

The Browns history is littered with losing and dispair.

You can't live in 1960 forever. You could look really good in brown and orange if you tried (which the brown pants attemped to do).

The all white's? Lame.

No, the brown pants didn't attempt to do that. They were the epitome of half-assed. It was as if the equipment manager went on Eastbay and ordered 100 pants in brown. Plain pants? That isn't looking good for a professional team. That is a kids' halloween costume.

While I'm in favor of putting stripes on them, supposedly the players find that the material that the stripe is made out of is actually restrictive, and that the plain pants stretch better and are more comfortable.

I remember reading that, and Brady Quinn is a moron. With all the supposed technological advances Reebok and Nike have made in uniform design, I think someone would have come up with a less restrictive pant stripe by now if that was a concern of many players. Furthermore, I'm sure it would be more comfotable for players to wear this:

...but that doesn't mean it should appear on an NFL field.

i really dont think the browns need to change their striping so everything matches. i actually think the whole set is pretty consistent. because first you have three stripes(helmet), then four(jersey), then three(pants), the four(socks). i really like that and it looks even better with the orange pants. one thing i will say is that the brown pants do look better with those stripes on it

I've always like the idea of wearing different pants for divisional games compared to non-divisional games. In the Browns case... I wouldn't mind seeing the Orange pants for divisional games, and white pants for non-divisional games.

When I heard the Browns had brown pants, I was thrilled to see when we'd see them. I got tired of looking at the white pants and wished they'd bring out the brown pants. After they finally did... I missed the white pants. Not a fan of plain jane pants. I don't see why they couldn't have added any stripes.

Any debate on whether the brown pants will reappear once the regular season starts can be laid to rest. From the Twitter feed of Tony Grossi, Browns beat writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

#browns. Fans can exhale now. Eric Mangini tells me the brown pants won't return in 2010. Not very well-received, he admits.
