MLB Logo&Uniform changes

UnclearInitial

So I'm half-watching Baseball Tonight, and they played a highlight from the Marlins game. I'm not really paying attention since I'm currently caught up in something else, but I glance up at the TV and thought that they were playing the Braves. To my surprise, I was wrong; they're playing the Nationals, who now with their new jersey/hat combination look exactly like the Braves used to look before they switched to wearing that hideously boring blue hat on the road.

Additionally, I'm glad that the A's still haven't dropped the all-green road hat. I think it works with the greys really well.

Question: are the A's still wearing the home batting helmets with their road uniforms?

i actually can't stand the pirates alts. i think the P is way too big, the front numbers look out of place, the outlining around the P just looks odd, and the hat is pointless.

ugh.

When paired with white pants, those uniforms are the best alternate in MLB. The grey pants don't give the nice contrast that white does.

ahh i just can't get over the size of that P lol.

Not only that but IMO Pittsburgh has one of the nicest home/road sets in baseball, there's no need for an alt when your primaries look this great.

I look at it kind of the same way as I do the "O's" caps, and the "Bolts" and "Sens" jerseys. Not nearly as egregious though.

Those are essentially recent ripoffs of something that has been in place for something like 40 years. Not really a good comparison. A's is far more well known and excepted.

I would love to except them, as opposed to accept them.

Just because it's always been that way doesn't make it right. I don't think that colloquialisms should appear on sports uniforms. Just my opinion. It doesn't matter how long it's been done, who started it, or who copied it.

It's not just a colloquialism in the A's case however. The team's official name for over a decade was the "A's" not the Athletics. Additionally they're often today still officially referred to as the A's by the team, the fans and MLB at least as often as they're referred to as the Athletics. It's not really the same situation where a team like the Phoenix Suns are wearing PHX or the Baltimore Orioles wearing their O's caps. Now I'll grant you it grew out of a VERY commonly used colloquialism from as far back as the early days in Philly, but it's grown into much more than that over 111 years.

Out of curiosity, are the Mets offcially the Metropalitans, or is it really just Mets?

Officially today they're the Mets. The Metropolitans is just one of their nicknames (and a rarely used relatively speaking). However the were named in honor of the original Metropolitans that played in the 1800's and the original group that brought them back was the New York Metropolitans Inc.

I saw this on the @MLB_PR twitter page.

When getting their @WorldSeries rings on Sat, @SFGiants will be wearing these gold caps & jerseys:

I picked up that hat a week or so ago, and just got the Jersey today. I hate the new replicas and absolutely HATE that they put the players names on the home jersey, but when I walked into Champs here in SF today and saw that jersey I just had to pick it up. I'll be taking a ton of pics tomorrow at the game so I'll post it some time tomorrow.

The Mets. They've always been just the Mets.

"New York Metropolitan Base Ball Club" was the corporate name before the team settled on a nickname, which is where some of the confusion comes in. But the team has never been anything but "Mets".

Back of the gold jerseys the Giants will wear tomorrow. The authentic won't have names, though.

The white or cream outline seems to be a tad unnecessary.

Saw a highlight of the Mariners Indians, I think the new road uni's for the Tribe look pretty good! The picture here doesn't do it the same justice.

Also, first peek of the Mariners' teal threads..

2 crappy teams but 2 nice sets. I'm down with both !

Someone brought up the Nats' unis, and I wanted to chime in. I'm glad they decided that a red-based / red-accented jersey with no real blue looks awkward with a solid navy cap. However, I still find the new away jersey to not be completely right. The red brim helps, but I'm thinking they tried too hard here. Pair the away with the home hat, and you probably are set. Make it easy on yourself. I still think this would / could be a great red/ yellow or maroon/ yellow club (because of the Redskins tie-in), but I think they're trying to force the navy here. The Phillies are sort of your NL East "red" team, so I'd say try the red/ yellow concept or just don't try so hard to force in the navy...

Is it just me, or are the Mariner's teal jerseys different from the ones they wore last year?

To me, the new jersey is more green, and the letters and numbers are a brighter silver, instead of the dull grey ones that were on last year's throwbacks.
