The_Admiral
The Winter Classic was a big deal, but if it happened three years earlier when Dollar Bill was still alive, it would have made barely a blip.See, that's kind of the point, though: it wouldn't have happened, because the Blackhawks were a moribund and alienating organization not only three years earlier, but as recently as Bill's last day on earth, and as such never would've been featured on such a stage. Of course, they'd stockpiled talented players, but the way Rocky Wirtz and John McDonough went all out to win back their fanbase in such a short time was nothing short of remarkable. So to be able to show off to the world that after all those years of being the worst sports team in America, you could get tens of thousands of people to sit outside and watch a Hawks game, that hockey wasn't dead here after all, was a pretty great day as a long-suffering fan.Wrigley's too small for the NFL's standards.Ironic, given that Soldier Field couldn't host a mid-sized family reunion. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
