New Halo color on the Angels Unis

I gotta disagree with a couple of things here.

First of all, just because they're a suburb of LA doesn't mean they have to have the LA name. The New Jersey Nets played in East Rutherford alongside the New York Jets and New York Giants for years, actually positioned closer to New York than the football teams. And the Anaheim name doesn't come just because of the Ducks. They lived in Anaheim Stadium since a couple years into their existence, so their Anaheim identity was firmly established. This is especially present in the fact that they left behind the Los Angeles name and identity the year they moved to Anaheim.

I don't think of it as much as a situation like Arlington or Miami Gardens. I think of it more like Washington and Baltimore, before the Nationals moved in. They're closeby, the more prominent and famous city, and they were all Orioles fans. The Orioles were the team of the Capital, but they weren't the Washington Orioles. Even if there were no Dodgers, the Angels wouldn't have to be labeled the Los Angeles Angels. Speaking of the Dodgers, how about the Brooklyn Dodgers, who kept their identity despite Brooklyn being an actual part of New York City.

And no, everyone does not think of the Angels as an LA team, or refer to them now as the Los Angeles Angels. As a Yankees fan, it wasn't until recently that I heard the "Beat LA" chant. Our league's LA area team isn't an LA team, it's Anaheim. The Yankees aren't traveling to Los Angeles, they're traveling to Anaheim. Announcers generally don't refer to them by location name, even when in context of listing teams. They'll list them as Oakland, Seattle, and the Angels. At the Stadium in 2008 when they held the All-Star Game, and the teams were listed in alphabetical order by location, the Angels were first. The only time I've heard anyone refer to the Angels as the Los Angeles Angels is on ESPN.

If anything, the Angels should go back to just being Anaheim.

But while they're the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, I am a person who's not a fan of both uniforms having the same script. Here's a concept for an away uniform script. It's the only way I can think of to reconcile both names on a uni.

Edit:Here's a couple other images to test on the cap.

Here's the old-style cap with the loss of bevelling.

Here's with gold trim.

Here's what seems to look the best, making the white trim border the A, like the old style cap.

I'm having a little trouble with my mouse, so it's a bit rough around the edges.

I disagree with the idea of the Dodgers being the blue team of the LA area. There's still a big enough difference between Dodger Blue and navy, and the huge difference in secondary colors (red and white) still give them a much different identity. The Yankees and Red Sox both primarily use Navy in their uniforms, but the secondary colors are different, and the teams have two completely different identities color-wise.

I always love how people outside of LA, assume they know and understand LA. Anaheim is not a suburb of LA. Far from it. Now yes, the LA County border and the Anaheim border are separated by 5 miles or maybe 10 minutes (I live between both), but people in LA hate and want nothing to do with Orange County (Anaheim) and vice versa. It doesn't matter what all the people who live outside of the LA/Anaheim area think, these two want nothing to do with each other and are not the same. That's like saying that because Canada and the United States are near each other that Canada is the 51st state in the United States and Mexico is #52. You couldn't be further from the truth. I guess, the people who think LA and Anaheim are one in the same, believe the people who live next door to them are their family. Well, no they're not.

None of those analogies are valid.

Especially when I'm from suburban LA and I still see the OC as part of the LA suburban sprawl.

And I'm also the one with the ex from Costa Mesa who pointed out that my area is almost identical to parts of Huntington and Newport.

And no "Los Angeles," either, which is too bad, because vertically arched "Los Angeles" in the Angels' lettering looks really neat.

No, it doesn't.

Yes, it does.

I'd love to see that take the field when they come to Yankee Stadium.

Yikes. That "LA" logo combining the current Angels logo and the Dodgers/Old PCL Angels interlocking "LA" is way too big and busy. Plus the L and A look like they're different font sizes.

The arched "Los Angeles" could work though.

When you have to attack other posters instead of attacking their arguments, you are conceding their point. Besides, I grew up spending half the year in Los Angeles since I was 10. I lived in LA for ten years as an adult. My family still lives there. It's not as though I am unfamiliar with LA.

Anaheim is part of the LA sprawl, it is a functional suburb of Los Angeles. I know that people in Orange County want to pretend it isn't so, but if wishes were horses we'd all be eating steak. ;)

I lived in Costa Mesa and worked in both Newport Beach and Huntington Beach, and while I'd like to say from a pride standpoint that Orange County is separate, it's still part of the Los Angeles metro area. I tried for years to argue otherwise, but LA is such a unique city in that it is so incredibly spread out that you really have to include OC as part of the LA area. No matter how much "Hate" oddball notices on either side, emotions still can't change physical geography.

Look at it this way, Oakland, CA is it's own city with it's own teams. Nobody from the bay area would try to argue that Oakland is physically San Francisco, but even so it's still part of the San Francisco-Bay Area, just like the rest of east bay.

I'd say that's a perfect summary of it.

We're proud to be OC. We don't want to be lumped in with what is a humongous "Greater LA Area." But to the outside and to statistics/media/etc, we're part of the LA area. It's also kinda weird to think of "LA suburbs" stretching as far as they do compared to other big cities in the country.

Straight from Wikipedia (so you can take it for what it's worth I guess, if that's anything at all): "Regional identity remains a contentious issue, with many residents refusing to acknowledge any association with the whole. For example, while Los Angeles County and Orange County share a geographical border, the two also share a host of sharp demographic, political, and financial distinctions. Orange County is often identified apart from Los Angeles in popular media and by residents."

While I was back home for winter break, I was able to pick up one of the new hats for next season. I took some closer pictures of the hat and made some comparisons to the silver halo of my 2009 hat. The pictures might look a little dulled out in the light of my apartment, but out in the sunlight, the gold halo really pops. It's fantastic. As said a thousand times since it was first seen, the gold halo needs to stay.

Wait, is the halo on the patch silver? That seems like a strange choice...

The silver halo is still currently the official logo. So I guess I see the reason for using it on the patch.

Except for the fact that every other halo seen on the uniform is going to be gold this season. But whatever.
