NFL Weekly Uniform Notes

You know... it pisses me off to see the Vikings logos on Ford Field. Really? Everyone knows that it isn't the Vikings home field. Would the Bears paint the Packers "G" at Soldier Field? What about the Broncos logo at Arrowhead? Or how about the Eagles logo over the star at Cowboy Stadium?

Stop crying.

Great response to a legitimate point.

I look at it as a nice gesture on the part of the Lions. For all we know it was probably the Ford Field crew that painted the Vikings logos on the turf.

If a tornado ripped up Heinz Field and the God Damn Steelers had to play their home games at Paul Brown Stadium then I wouldn't care if they painted their logos on the field (even though that's impossible with the Sewn in graphics on the PBS turf).

Their stadium had an accident and even though these teams all compete on the field it's in their best interest to accommodate other teams in times of distress. It's the old "be a good host" rule.

I'm actually with GFB on this one. They're not fooling anyone - nobody, even the players, thinks this is a home game. I agree that no logo (or generic NFL logo) would have been best, but honestly who cares if the Lions' mark is there? It's a one-off situation. I'm not sure that the wrong logo is going to F with the players any more than the last minute travel, game on wrong day, and being in a city they had no plans on being in already has.

I'd be curious to hear when the last time an NFL team played an official home game without a logo of theirs painted somewhere on the field. Any fairly recent examples?

Total guess, but the only example of a team relocating would be the Saints after Katrina. They played in Baton Rouge, San Antonio, and Giants Stadium.

These all-red Texans uniforms are awful. They would be tolerable if they wore blue socks with them because then it would be a bracketed and balanced football. With the red jersey/pants/socks paired with the blue helmet they look like amateurs. It's a bad high school look.

and they just lost on a walk-off interception. Maybe we won't see them again. Next time, Texans, wear the red jerseys with the blue pants and red socks. It will look super sweet, I promise.

If the Texans got rid of uni combos based on horrible last minute loses, they'd be playing in cleats alone.

Battle Red sells well and they have to do something with their red socks since they are never wore at any other time.

Well that's perfect because that works with my blue helmets-red jerseys-blue pants-red socks getup that would look so great it would almost be illegal.

also, you're going down in the playoffs, Galveston. I got you this time.

Seahawks at Husky Stadium in 2000-01 (waiting for Qwest Field to open); Bears at Memorial Stadium in 2002 (waiting for new Soldier Field to open). I don't think the Oilers had a logo or wordmark in the Astrodome from 1993 or so through 1997 - could be wrong. I don't know if the Bengals had a logo on the turf at old Riverfront in the 80s. The Broncos and Browns used to have wordmarks in the endzones in the 80s and early 90s that were probably not official logos.

God DAMN those Lions and their good-will gestures and hospitality...

That's my 2nd favorite combo I use in Madden. My absolute favorite would be blue helmets/red jerseys/white pants/blue socks. Try it out sometime. It's great.

Teams have to declare which jersey they will wear for each home game before the season starts (although inexplicably they can mix and match the pants at any time). If the Eagles were to decide to wear green now the Cowboys would have to approve the change, and I don't think they would. It was a big story in the preseason when it was announced the Cowboys would wear white every game this season for the first time in nearly 40 years.

Didn't they wear blue on Thanksgiving?

The Cowboys wore blue throwbacks on Thanksgiving.

That got a literal LOL. :D

The Battle Red is one of the worst looks in the NFL, right up there with Buffalo's home set. Just awful.

About the Vikes logos at Ford Field, anybody here familiar with the actual process? Wouldn't they need some kind of template? I guess it's something they could do via computer now but I'm curious with how they did that on such short notice.
