NFL Field Color Question

Are there any rules in the NFL regarding the color of the turf? Or does it have to be green? But, does it matter what shade of green? Because I was thinking if the Jets had their own set of turf they could have their whole field dark green.

Yeah, and the Cleveland Browns could have their whole field neon purple.

Thanks for bringing this up. Since this isn't a rule, I say the NFL should institute it immediately before some crazy renegade team does it.

Reminds me of playing basketball on a crazy colored carpeted gym in grade school. Talk about rug burns.

A little bit off topic but the Packers field logo consists of gold and white paint. There is no green paint used, just the natural grass green showing through. So you could say that the Packers are the first and only team to have ever "colored" their field in accordance to their "logo".

ever since i first saw boise state's field, i've fantasized about the raiders going with a black field.

imagine how intimidating that would be... a black field, with grey markings. the home team in black and silver. the fans in the stands are clad in all black with black and white and silver facepaint. the sky is grey.

literally the only colors you would see as an opposing player would be your teammates and your team color. in a sea of drab grey-scale death.

i think it would look amazing and really give the road team a sense of isolation, and being in enemy territory.

The main issue I have with coloring the field in accordance to team colors is it makes it harder to follow the action since there's less contrast between the home team and the field turf.

Knew this would drive the traditionalists here crazy.

Some teams wouldn't be so bad. People acting like a darker shade of green is "horrible" though? lol... my god, really? "I hate it because I'm not used to it!! WAAHH"

Nah. I hate it because it looks minor league and like a$$.

What color are the seats in their stadium? Because you'd see quite a bit of them too.

Aren't they Green b/c of the A's?

Green provides a neutral background that is calming to the eyes, making it easier to follow the action and focus on the players on the field. Anything else, and you're focusing on the field, not necessarily what's on it. It also camouflages the home team, and generally just looks stupid. I would not encourage any NFL team to go this route.

Wood tones or white would work, since those are perfectly functional for NBA and NHL. I say, if it's a synthetic surface, a team should be able to make it any color they like.

That said, I think the sport should only be played on natural surfaces.

Actually, I was going to bring this up here last year after attending my first Packers game, but it bothers me that they do this, because it is inaccurate. I always looked at the Packers' endzones as being a traditional-inspired "grass" and gold, not team colors.

But seeing it as a whole, the empty part of the midfield logo really stood out to me as being an inaccurate colorization of the logo. Maybe a bit lazy or cheap rather than creative use of the green field. Doesn't match the helmets, the jerseys... I know this is extremely nitpicky, but that's what we do here, right? An NFL team has the wrong color logo in the center of their field. In this era, that surprises me. (Even the nortiously mismatched Cowboys now have a star that matches the helmets.)

All that said, I love the atmosphere, the stadium is great and the fans couldn't be nicer.

Jets should go with white field and green lines!

I'm only in favor if the "green lines" are simply the natural grass showing through on the white painted field. If you're suggesting white painted field with green painted lines, well, then that's just absurd.
