TCU's Rose Bowl Helmet

Again, if black is a school color (not the primary color, but still a school color), what is wrong with wearing a black jersey?

Black is not a school color. TCU football has worn black on a off for a long time, but it is not an official school color.

That was my question. People say that the "team" has black as a color, but if it's not a "school" color, then it's still BFBS, even if the BFBS decision was established 20 years ago.

Northwestern's had black football jerseys for a long time, but as far as I know, black is not a school color.

I even wish Wisconsin would drop the black trim that drop-shadows the motion-W and trims the basketball uniforms. Wisconsin is Cardinal and white and I wish they'd stay that way on their uniforms...Similarly, Northwestern (I think) is purple and white and I wish their uniforms would stay that way.

So if it is true that black is not a TCU school color, then the criticism is valid, in my opinion. School colors should not change (and I know they do in sports...e.g., Western Michigan) and the uniforms of their team should reflect that.

As for the helmet, I don't like wordmark/logo helmets, so TCU's is way down the list for me. But given that this is their helmet, I love the way they added the rose to it. Good choice.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they're the first team since Washington State in 2003 to feature a rose on thier helmet, right? I'm glad to see TCU pull this off, it looks fantastic.

I thought that Purdue did it before that but I could be wrong. The years are flying by real quickly. :)

No you're right, Purdue did it for the 2001 game. I was just saying Wazzou was the last team to do it before TCU, although Wazzou did also do it before Purdue - in the 1998 game. From my recollection, here's who I know have done it:

1998 - Washington State

2001 - Purdue

2003 - Washington State

2011 - TCU

I don't remember anyone else personally, but it'd be cool to see if there were any others.

No, no one else in the FBS has done it besides those three.

That's awesome, do you know who's helmet it was?

It was Kevin Sharples'. He is a kickoff specialist, which is fine with me because he is a good starter and since he is kicker the helmet is in great shape. Also, I walked on as a kicker at TCU.

TCU has a contract with Schutt, so the only helmets the school gives away are Schutt's (even though the players are allowed to wear whichever brand they prefer).
