Jets Considering New Throwback

I'm really surprised by all the love for the 80s Jets uniforms. They're just really generic. I like the current green much better than the kelly green too. The only good thing about the 80s look is that the helmet logo had some kind of Jets imagery (I don't even like this logo, though).

Usually I don't buy into the "you just like it just because it's old" argument but in this case...well, you all like it just because it's old. That Jets look reminds me of something a TV show would come up with if they needed to make a uniform for a fictional team. Bland and generic. There's a reason the Jets went back to the "Namath" look folks. The reason may not have been those 80's Jets uniforms but it's as good a reason as any. Those things were just green Giants (no pun intended) uniforms.

I'm someone who usually dislikes throwbacks in general. However, I like (and have always liked) those particular Jets unis. Personally, I have always disliked the original Jets and current Jets' uniform and logo design. I mean that logo REALLY screams generic to me...(what does it have to do with a team called the 'Jets' anyway?:

And now from the "the world must be ending" desk... Here I am arguing against a throwback and here you are arguing for one. Just goes to show all the hardliners here that a person who prefers a traditional look isn't "all about the throwbacks" and people who prefer modern looks don't "hate all throwbacks." As always, it just comes down to personal preference.

On the logos; they're both really generic. I just prefer the current/old one to the 80's version.

i actually think the love you're seeing for the '80s jets unis come from a few different elements:

1) most people hate the titans throwbacks and would much prefer, if the jets are going to throw back, it be to something that doesn't pre-date the current franchise name and color scheme.

2) many contend the jet coming off the j is the best (or second to the jet plane) logo in a very generic history of logo sets.

and 3) a lot of people prefer the kelly green to the darker green in use since '98.

that's where my love for the unis comes from. all three of those points actually. i hate that dark forest green and would love if they went to kelly full time in the current uniform, with a helmet change. it's nitpicking on a nice set, but that's just my personal preference.

And there's the fatal flaw; Not too many people would be fans of a throwback that, to the layman's eyes, is nearly the same as the current unis. I guess that's why they're probably going to go with the 80s throwbacks. Oh well, that original Jets logo is still terrific.

While people would notice the differences, people would not shell out the 80 bucks for a replica of a jersey they feel they already have. And that is pretty much what drives this throwback madness...merchandise. Those late 70's to late 90's Jets uniforms blew, and the logo was awful. I hope they do not use this.

I think the current logo blows, and I'm glad they're thinking about bringing back the 80s/90s look for a game or two. In the end, it's just personal preference, as infrared said.

Not a lot of nostalgia from those years. I grew up suburban NY and we got Jets, Giants, and Pats games, so I watched a lot of games from the mid-80s on. Not much to be nostalgic about there.

I think it is a matter of preference. While I don't look back on those years and think about how great the team was...those are the uniforms I grew up with. Those are the uniforms the team wore when I went to games with my grandpa when I was a kid. I look back on those days and I do feel nostalgia.

No point really. Just thought is was interesting that you liked the old Rams uni since they are just as bland and generic....
