New Marlins Uniforms?

I was doing a Google search and came across this:

While doing a Google image search for a Marlins-Orioles photo for a previous post, I stumbled across this photo of a Marlins hat made by Fitted Hawaii on the Strictly Fitteds blog. The hat, it appears, is no longer for sale on Fitted Hawaii's site (unfortunately), but it offers an interesting possibility for the Marlins' new uniforms when the team begins play in their new stadium (whereupon they will be known as the Miami Marlins).

The hat uses the template for the current batting-practice cap, but instead of the teal, silver, and black color scheme used now, this hat uses an orange and green scheme that is used by the University of Miami's athletic program. I always liked the orange and green combination (not just because I'm a fan of the U). As far as I can tell, Miami and Florida A&M University are the only major athletic teams to use the combination. The Marlins could make an interesting statement with these colors while also ditching the color teal, which has become an overused color choice in modern sports.

The major problem with these colors is that they do not resemble the colors found on an actual Marlin. Of course, teal and black don't necessarily match either, but they are a bit closer than orange and green. Additionally, there are plenty of examples of teams with animal mascots whose colors do not quite match up with that animal's colors (for instance, the Rays, Diamondbacks, Detroit Lions, and Atlanta Falcons, among others). So at the very least, while an orange and green Marlins uniform might not be entirely logical, it at least would be pretty original (for a baseball team, at least).

UPDATE: I recently discovered that this color scheme would also match the colors on the City of Miami flag. Check it out below, the more I think about this design, the more I like it.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

Wow, I honestly thought that was the flag of India at first glance.

I think that would be a great color combination, but I still would prefer teal over green. Teal has that aqua feel to it that is so appropriate for the Marlins. Not that I want to open up this can of worms again.

Now I've heard orange(and seen everywhere including the Marlins site), but red and yellow? The black and teal(okay, not a lot of teal) is sharp and distinctive. No blue, the Mariners already have blue and teal. No red. No gold, that's the Rays' disaster. Maybe orange because it's already the most logical step. I hope they don't make a full on orange jersey. It should only be used as accents to black and teal IMO.

Honestly, Orange will not work with a stadium with blue seats.

Indeed. It'll clash about as much as a hockey team in the city of Glendale. :P

In all seriousness, I'd rather not see the Marlins ditch the teal. Like the Jaguars, they've made it work - maybe because teal is just a "Florida" color.

I could see the Marlins in a darker teal like the Jaguars and Sharks use. That would keep the teal going without being too garish to be a base color.

The red/yellow/blue/green that the stadium uses could be an interesting color scheme too. Big burst of color.

Apparently you've never heard of complimentary colors.

What's the world coming to when I can stroll by a CCSLC thread and come upon "blue doesn't go with orange"? BigMac12, did you have religious objections to 7th grade art class?

With green and orange uniforms? Boy, are you guys trying to pick a fight with me?

Read your post again. I quoted it to make it easy for you.

Essentially, yes. This is the CCSLC, after all...

@LoMoMarlins: "4 those of u cracking on the Marlins teal. Heard a rumor that these will be our new unis/colors starting in 2012 http://plixi.com/p/69231580"

Seriously hoping this is just a joke, because those uniforms are hideous. Also would be shocked to see the black be dumped.

I hope this is a joke too. I'm gonna look into this. The Marlins' colors are perfect the way they are.

i just want a black hat with a teal/silver M-fish logo. when can i get on of those?

You can make one anytime you want, but David Samson was on the radio last Wednesday stating that the changes would be made public in November.

And when they do, you won't be able to get what you want - the teal will be gone. Or at least significantly minimized.

You'll still be able to get a black or teal version (or practically any color for that matter) from New Era's website or Lids though. New Era gets a little crazy with their 59Fifty hats.

For example: purpleindians.jpg
