New Marlins Uniforms?

Okay guys, here's a good question for you.

For the last game of the season the Marlins are having a huge celebration to honor the 19 seasons as the Florida Marlins. I go to about 30 games a year, but for the final game I scored some great tickets on Craigslist from a guy who has season tickets & gives them to business partners. He sold me $310 tickets for $40 each.

The seats happen to be directly behind home plate 6 or 7 seats to the left of were Loria sits. I figure its the last game, they will have a lot of cool stuff going on, I got the tickets for a good price, might as well sit in great seats.

Here's the question. How great would it be to go to Lids with this new hat logo & get a black hat made with the new Miami Marlins leaked logo & wear it to the last game on Wednesday? I imagine tons of big wigs will be down in the 30 or so seats in the section I'm going to be sitting. Loria will definitely be there with Samson & others from the front office.

Would Samson flip if he saw me & ask where I bought this hat? Lol Would he think people are bootlegging the merchandise already? If somebody asks, do I say I made it at Lids? Lol

Should I or shouldn't I? Keep in mind, I'm 6 or so seats to Lorias left & he will have to pass me to get to & from his seat.

DO IT!!! lol

Lmao is there any real trouble I could get in? I'd have to bring a back up hat for sure. Knowing Samson he'd have me arrested for counterfeiting lol.

If you or someone else made your own one-off hat of a licensed (or rumored to be licensed) logo - as long as that hat is not offered for sale in any way shape of form - then there isn't much, if anything that could be done to you - other than the Marlins insisting that you remove the cap or leave the stadium (which would be perfectly within their rights). If they somehow coerced you into forfeiting the cap in return for allowing you to stay - then that's pretty darn close to an admission that the logo is legit.

Your best bet would be to find a vendor who may not be aware of the fuss over this logo and order it there. They may just believe that they are producing a ridiculous looking "Miami" themed cap.

The logo is legit, he doesn't have to go through all that to just find out if it is real or not. It would be a hilarious situation either way though.

I think the new Marlins logo minus the M could be a good cap logo IMO.

It has the appearance of a cheap corporate giveaway.

how about adding "Cabo Retreat 2012" to balance the logo out?

I think we need to come out of our comfort zone on this one. It's very different which can be frightening but is worth exploring. The Marlins have no reason to look traditional. They are in a perfect place to be different, new, exciting. Baseball could use some "different" in small doses.

As for "cheap corporate" It's all in the context. If you see this hat on a team, with matching uniforms, in a baseball environment, it begins to look right. You have to have vision.

I agree, but it still looks like a Nike cap.

I'm out of my comfort zone. That Marlin swoosh is a terrible logo for a professional baseball team. The colors are outside the box and would be identifiable with the Marlins if not for the fact that they are making the caps and one of the uniforms black (which kinda defeats the "be unique at all costs" mindset). I have no issue with the colors (except the black), and I don't mind the font. However, that logo doesn't belong on a baseball uniform. Marlin Cruiselines? Marlin Sanitation Services? Absolutely. Not Florida Marlins professional baseball club.

If you really wanna spend the 90 some odd dollars Lids charges to do embroidery of a custom logo, then pay for the price of the hat, go fot it. Economically, it doesn't make much sense though for a silly prank.

The only issue with the marlin itself (IMO) is that it needs to flare out at the bottom to give the appearance of a tail fin.

This. Exactly.

Right now they are the Miami Concordes until that "marlin" gets its stuff straight.

Here's hoping they go back to that retro 70's look with the pullover rainbow jersey...

Someone put that marlin in touch with Dr. Dan Strzempka and Kevin Carroll. Or, at the very least, Morgan Freeman.

hahaha...awesome

to be honest, I wouldn't mind it as much if this was an expansion franchise unveiling it's first identity. The fact that I've already seen years worth of pretty decent uniforms and logo identities makes me hate these because its inferior to what they had. In addition to that I feel that they had a nearly perfect 'M' fish logo that could easily have been re-colored if they felt inclined to do so. Its a downright shame that they're going away from the fish + letter logo hat. Its such a beautiful baseball hat... especially the 'M' logo.

As a Marlins fan I never liked the short-lived "M" BP cap logo.

ckhvh2kef8ignswrgxssk6jw3.gif

It just seems haphazardly thrown together from the other, good, pieces of the identity. And for another thing it's just poorly rendered. Note the eye area and the gills, which for some reason are more sloppy than the "F" version, and also the back fins and teal area where you can see they fudged the part that is normally behind the "F". And I've seen the 2001 style guide, that's really the official version.

Granted, I'd much rather have this than the new leaked logo, but it's just lazy IMO.

They needed revamped logos. But revamped in the way the Dolphins, Falcons, Seahawks, Twins did it. Even the new Jays. Keep the color scheme and take what you have, which is very good, and tweak it a bit to refresh it. They needed a well done "Miami" script to go with the "Marlins" one, just like the "Florida" script they killed last season that replaced the old arched letters from the 90s. And the primary which they haven't used in years needed to be replaced, as just replacing "Florida" with "Miami" would throw off the spacing and, again, just look lazy. That and there were two distinctly different Fish, the one from the primary and the one from the "F"/"M" cap logos.

Of course that's all because they're changing names. If they weren't there would be no good reason to change anything. Freaking Miami City Council. Enjoy the laughingstock you paid $360 million dollars to get your name on. They should've taken the offer for the Bicentennial Park plan on the bay over a decade ago:

Would have saved them some money and prevented Loria from ever owning the team. Sigh.

Its actually the exact same fish on the 'F' as it is on the 'M'. I have no problem with it at all. I can see what you are saying and would actually adjust the two items now that you mentioned it....but they are minor details. That being said it still stands heads and shoulders above this new logo in my opinion.

LOL!

Or as it just occurred to me "Carnival Cruise Lines". carnivalcruiselines.JPG

Now the Marlins logo makes perfect sense to me - Miami is the cruise ship capital of the world. What better way for the Marlins to honor that distinction then have a cruise line style logo of their own?!

I was going to get to Marlins Teal Snapback, but waited just in case they decide to recolor their old logo with Orange / Yellow etc which i think would look awesome...I shall now get a Marlins Teal snapback....This is disgusting for a sports logo. A part of the charm of sports logos is; the logo is meant to somewhat be a mascot, an image that you wear. This is more like a 2 coloured smudge, that you would see on a polo shirt. It reminds me of Nautica.

SME is trying to set the trend for worst logos in every sports.

They are now going to be associated with :censored: logos.

So anytime anyone sees a logo that looks hapharzardly put together by 5 year olds in sports, they'll know SME did it.

:censored: them. They really suck.
