How exactly does the Rooney Rule work? I know every rule and reg about the NHL but not so much about the NFL so I got to thinking...

Do the Vikings still have to interview a minority candidate since they promoted Leslie Frazier since he came from within the organization?

What about the Cowboys? Do they have to interview a minority candidate after promoting in house?

Lets say an established coach like Bill Belichick or Mike Tomlin left their jobs can another team just hire them or do they have to go through the motions of a Rooney Rule interview?

Also (not to be crass) what constitutes a minority candidate?

You can skip the obligatory Rooney rule interview if 1: The hire is black/minority (this is self-explanatory) 2: There was a succession plan/"coach in waiting" contract in place to replace the departing head coach. Generic midseason "interim" hires do not count towards 2.

So case by case.

Vikings don't need to interview an additional minority since Leslie Frazier is black

Cowboys did have to have a Rooney Rule interview to take the interim tag of off Jason Garrett

If you wish to hire Belichick you're going to have to do an additional interview of a minority. If you wish to hire Mike Tomlin, you will not (as he is black).

Ron Rivera has been a Rooney Rule interview, and he's Puerto Rican, so the minority candidate doesn't have to be black, but obviously, it's specifically meant to help black people. Nobody laments the legions of Pakistanis who can never go beyond being mere players.

Blaine Gabbert is probably the number one QB in the draft so you can ink him most likely as the guy that will possibly ruin Jimmy Clauses's career but I hope not.

Minny seems to be the most likely to take a run at an already proven QB or at least one that's ready to step in to a veteran laden lineup, Carson Palmer would look decent in purple. Him, Kolb or Ryan Mallett will be the Vikings next quarterback just a prediction.

There is no way in hell Carolina is taking a QB at #1. That's the done deal. Even if they wanted to take a QB, Gabbert at #1 overall is completely and totally ri-damn-diculous. If they aren't going to be able to trade out of that pick (and frankly, who would really want it that badly), they're going to probably take either Bowers or Fairley (I'd rather have Bowers). They are also going to suck out loud enough to pick up Luck with next year's #1 pick.

Okay, so it's getting pretty intense over the Twitter feed. First, we had the whole Jay Cutler situation, in which about a dozen players called him out for sitting out the 2nd half of the NFCCG. And now it gets even crazier. This time between Antonio Cromartie and Matt Hasslebeck, which starts with a deleted tweet, and ends with a threat. Link

What bothers me about all this is that all these 'tough guys' hide behind a computer screen, and would NEVER spit this kind of stuff into a mic or to a reporter. How refreshing would it be if they actually came out behind the Twitter feed and just said what they really felt face-to-face? Instead they talk their sh-t, then back it up with a "Lol, just joking" or "Somebody hacked my account, for reals". Give it time, Goodell is gonna put the whole thing on lockdown so players won't have the option to be chickensh-t anymore.

Cromartie has an anger problem, makes you wonder if one day when a threat actually happens on the field.

Yeah, he'll probably lose his mind for a split second and pull a Woody Hayes, Marty McSorley, or Todd Bertuzzi, and then be banished from the league after that. Or if the league locks-out in 2011, he might just lose his mind in a public place and end up going to jail after an altercation.

If there is a lockout, he will may end up to jail, but it will be for paternity suits/child support. The Jets fronted him money before the season, and those who saw Hard Knocks remember this:

Jeff Fisher out as Titans head coach.

Fans of the Browns, Cowboys, and Bengals are really happy with their teams coaching decisions right about now.

Wow, well good luck to him... he deserves better.

Enjoy the cellar Bud Adams. May you enjoy watching your team never win a championship in your lifetime.

What the heck is up with the timing here? Did the Titans want to ensure Fisher wouldn't get hired this year or something?

Denver too. Nobody was going to hire John Fox. They should've just waited up until the Draft to see if any good playoff coordinators became available, or something.

That's strike one, Mr. Elway!

Strike one, in a long line of ones to come, Cujo. Being a successful Arena Football owner does not make one entitled to have success at the professional level. Although, I wouldn't expect much from someone who calls Jim Harbaugh "Jack Harbaugh," or Mike Mularkey "Mark Mularkey." I think I might be the only one who anticipates his role as Executive Vice President of Football Operations to go that smoothly.
