BigBubba
And of course in the video, the players have nothing but nice things to say about the jersey. It's cool, innovative, different, nice looking, matches my stick tape, etc.Along with this article on the background of the jersey:Terry Goldstein, The Islanders Director of Retail Operations, said the Islanders started working on the Third Jersey prototype a year ago and ultimately landed on the Black Jersey after getting feedback from the Islanders organization and players. "We view this (Third Jersey) as just a fun, alternative jersey," Goldstein said. "With our white and our blue jerseys we look back at our history, and with the black jerseys, we're looking forward."---"The jersey has to fit the personality of the team," Goldstein said. "Currently, the personality of our team and our fans is that they love the traditional Royal and White and we're not changing that for a long time, but on a couple of games we wanted to have some fun with something different." He added, "It's going to be a different look. Hopefully we win in these jerseys and our fans will love it."-This jersey could be the bane of their existence, but they'd still have to say they like it. The team obviously tells them to act like they love it.-Wow. You know a jersey sucks when matching your stick tape is one of the best things about it.-It does. Both are lousy pieces of that will be gone in five years. Nobody cares about your humungous-big signature. PotD: 29/1/
Kramerica Industries
If it wasn't part of a well-established and solid identity like that of the Islanders, this uni wouldn't be so bad.As it is, this is just an awful addition to their ensemble. Any Isles alt should be orange. Navy nor black make any sense.
Sterling84
Just my 2 cents. Love the Keystone Captaincy shape. And for what it's worth, I very much like contrasting nameplates. I'm not saying every team should have them, but I like them.1) Easier to read.2) From a form v function perspective it acknowledges the crossover and synergy between the two. Nameplates theoretically are not necessary at all in today's day and age....at least not at the NHL level. They exist only as a sort of throwback to an era where a team needed to recycle on-ice (on-field) apparel from one player to another, year over year...for cost saving purposes. I would liken it to other form vs function vs budget (vs technology) uniform elements like most baseball teams using midnight blue (Yankees) rather than black wool for their caps...or colored facemasks or colored side panels or underarm gussets. And many people dislike those things as well I realize...but I'm just saying. To color (i.e. acknowledge, tackle and design) the nameplate as it's own design element rather than attempt to conceal it...that isn't always bad by any stretch.I think the phenomenon is worse in reverse, when function has clearly changed and you attempt to cram the form in anyway (NFL sleeve stripes and logos). Neon_Matrix
For those who care, the NHL12 jersey updates are live. Gotta say... I'm having fun with these Islanders' thirds... and they look great matched up against another dark jersey (that isn't black lol). Sabrejeff
I actually don't mind the Islanders third as much as I'd thought. But I really have no clue what more sports design tastes are like anymore. The Marlins turned that world upside down for me, I guess.

Bayne
The islanders third is probably the worst jersey going around atm. It's got the worst of everything happening in it. Worst of all is the grey. I'm Danny fkn Heatley, I play for myself. That's what fkn all stars do.
Cosmic
Similar Flyers t-shirts now available on NHL ShopStrange. I wouldn't have pegged it beforehand, but throwing the cream in with the orange and black is what crosses the line and makes it look Halloweeny to me. Never thought that with orange/black/white. GMW79
The islanders third is probably the worst jersey going around atm.No probably about it. No sooner is the NHL rid of the Thrashers and their atrocious sweaters, than this pile of vomit is spewed all over the ice.
habsfan1
The Islanders third looks like a failed attempt at an alt jersey from the late 90s. The orange sticks out like a sore thumb against the black and the whole thing looks like it was done using pastel.
Kramerica Industries
I understand the argument about how alternate looks should be different than the regular home/road sets. But in a case like the Isles, where two prominent colors (black and gray) are nowhere to be found in their regular sets, it looks bad. And this is not a campaign to add black to their beautiful regular threads either. The only color the alt would've made sense being is orange, be it with a different pattern or just a re-color of their regulars.
johnnysama
I don't know WHAT Islanders management, or whomever designed this new third jersey was smoking when they designed this abomination. It's as if the uni gods exorcised the Mets from this BFBS and then transferred it to the Islanders. Wow.

Lee.
Where's the bottom stripe?Actually, I like that a lot. I was also about to give Schenn a ton of crap for wearing sock with sandals until I realized he was in a walking cast. Sport
It's a good looking jersey, but the flyers have never worn anything resembling it. It's FFFS (fauxback for fauxback's sake, if you didn't catch that). That missing stripe is bugging me too.
Lee.
It's marketing. This is the only NHL game that NBC cares about, and the league wants to maximize revenues coming out of it.If the Flyers were doing this as a throwback without the Winter Classic, okay. But much like the Penguins jerseys from last year's game, this is a "throwback inspired" jersey. I guess it's sorta similar to what the Quakers wore once, but the Flyers are already wearing their throwbacks. I have no real point to this, other than maybe the league should start looking at other teams to be in this silly thing.
